How about the other folks in Jaffna (or at least who have seen Jaffna) ?

Will they want to go back to the stone age and fight for a homo land ?

I guess, the civilians in NE have realized what a ride that Kalaweddi gang LTTE has taken them for 30+ years,...

    Pharoah,

[how is life treating you these days?]

Thanks for asking. A bit stressed out. A lot of things going on with work and family. How about you? I saw your posts on Kandy. A beautiful place. Did you go there recently? I have vivid memories of the place when I visited Kandy and the gardens in 82 or so. My parents have friends and relatives in Kandy - both also studied at the university there. One of the best part of the trip to Kandy was the trip itself from Colombo. We were fortunate to have seats in one of those (train) cars with observation windows. It was 1st class or something like that. Perks of being a senior civil servant (my Appah). Those were the days when we took the night train (Yarldevi?) from Colombo to KKS or from Batti to Colombo. The slow moving Amtrak in the US reminds me of those journeys (not the electric ones in the Northeast corridor - but the diesel engine pulled long hauls that last more than a day).

My motto now is to go to Sri Lanka next year, come what may. When I do, Kandy will be one of the stops. Trinco, Chilaw, Galle, Pollonaruwa, Batti, Keerimalai, etc. will be some places I want to visit. I had lived in VVT, Batti, Dehiwala and Wellawatte before I left Sri Lanka. I still have vivid memories of our trip to the Parakrama Samudra in Pollonaruwa. I had visited Trinco many times when I was a young kid, especially the Thirukoneswaram kovil. There are so many places that I want to see (and show to my family especially my kids). I suspect, it will be a sad journey to visit my hometown and my distant relatives. Many had passed away, while others have gone to many countries around the world. But, I can`t wait to visit the kovils in VVT and Selva-Sannithi kovil in Thondamanaru. Then, there are places I don`t want to see. Like the house my parents had to sell in Dehiwala - because they had no other choice. In retrospect, I did not know about the TULF leaders` racist speeches against the Sinhala people.

What a waste. Our people did not realize what they had in Sri Lanka - before embarking on journeys to foreign lands. Now, it is time for many of us to go back to our homes.

This is a good article about the past and the present. The future of Sri Lanka will be shaped by those who live there.

    GTG.

A lord of carbage, written by one named Mahinda Gunasekera, in Defense.lk. I am surprised this has been posted. Because, defense.lk does not carry articles of dubious or questionable nature. In this case, this is insulting and derogatory. Someone should report this to Gothabaya Rajapakse:

[Furthermore, historical records show that the vast majority of the Tamils were brought to Sri Lanka by the Dutch and British colonialists for work on tobacco, cocoa, coffee and tea plantations which they started after destroying the ecological wealth of the country and taking over the lands of the indigenous Sinhalese whom they dispossessed through infamous Acts such as the Waste Lands Ordinance, etc. Tamils first arrived as invaders but were driven back to South India from the pockets they captured after short periods of control of such terrain. Except for a few Tamils who arrived as settlers around the 12th century, the bulk of the Tamils came as indentured labour under the Dutch and British colonial regimes which date back to about 350 years, which is a far stretch to say it extends to the dawn of history which covers 2600 years of the Sinhalese domination of the island as given in the `Mahavamsa`, which is a chronicle of recorded history. ]
