General (retd) Sarath Fonseka, who was arrested by the Military Police on Monday evening, has requested that he be permitted to meet his lawyers. High ranking government sources said that he would be allowed that facility.
Sources said contrary to a claim by Fonseka s wife that she had sought ICRC help to trace him, he was being kept in an apartment at the Navy Headquarters and she had visited him there. `The moment she made a request to the Defence Ministry, she was given access to her husband,` a senior defence official said.
Fonseka was arrested on allegations that he had revealed military secrets and conspired to overthrow the government.
When the Military Police attempted to arrest him, Fonseka had, while being seated, kicked one of the officers, sources said. `That prompted soldiers to take him out with his chair.`
The arrest was made just hours after he challenged the government to arrest him without harassing his supporters. He also declared that he wouldn t protect anyone, who had given illegal orders to the army during the war though he would stand by his officers and men.
During the initial interrogation he had dismissed claims that he divulged military secrets or conspired to overthrow the government, sources said.
So far, 40 suspects, including retired and serving Army personnel of various ranks, have been arrested over the same allegations.
Sources said he had been provided with all comforts, medical facilities and permission to see his family members.

Knee jerk reaction they wanted to show. Hillarious!!
Well MR brother's plot turned out to be an absolute stupid disaster .
Reliable sources informed that Prof. Vitharana, G.L Peries, and Amunugama are pissed off . Lots of talking going on . Possible one way out contemplated is to blame the Army Commander for the Fiasco.

| Magha, how reliable is your info or is this the usual speculation that gets turned into 'fact' through repeated gossip? If true, might it result in former UNPers returning to the fold? Might not be a bad outcome, Sri Lanka needs a strong opposition to curtail excesses of Rajapakses. |

The arrest was made just hours after he challenged the government to arrest him
So he invited them to arrest him.
He also declared that he wouldn t protect anyone, who had given illegal orders to the army during the war though he would stand by his officers and men.
SF digging his own grave.
If he didn't make the above 2 statements, Gov has no moral right to arrest SF.
Aren't there anybody to give SF some advices how to achieve his goals (if he want to be the leader of the country one day)? |

Sri Lanka has very disciplined armed forces personnel. They would definitely not have manhandled Gen.Fonseka, specially our Maharajathuma HRH Double Doctor Commander in Chief Field Marshall King Sri Wickrama Mahinda Rajapaksa would NEVER allowe anyone to harrass his political oppononents.
These are all fibs to bring disrepute to the high and exemplary image and intergrity that the Royal Rajapaksas have maintaned and these are fibs to tarnish the image of the impeccable system of governence of the UPFA govt headed by HRH King Mahinda Rajapaksa which has at all times respected the rule of law and is committed to upholding the rule of law. |

To take out the masses on to the streets, S.F. Kalawedda' newly found friends Somawassa, RanilW, Eelam dreamer Samba, Munguli Samaweera etc have opened a new lie factory.
They describe how the old soldier was 'manhandled' by the Security Forces.
If S.F. Kalawedda did not resist arrest he could have gone down on his 2 feet, instead of being lifted by his limbs.
It seems that he has used his filthy language (as usual) to abuse the soldiers....
In fact, it was he himself who challenged, a few hours ago that he be arrested!
What a silly idiot this inexperienced Kalawedda who wanted to be the President of 20 million civilized Sri Lankans!
If by any mischance, he was elected the President, he would have acted like Mr. BEAN!
