Child soldiers to be released soon

All detained former Tamil Tiger child soldiers will be released by May, officials in Sri Lanka say.
Head of the Child Protection Authority (CPA) Jagath Wellawatta told BBC Sandeshaya that the government is committed to hand over all former child soldiers to parents and relatives after a one-year rehabilitation programme.
Forty percent of the detained former LTTE cadres are children under the age of 18 years, according to the United Nations.
More than 11,000 LTTE combatants are currently in custody, according to official estimates.
UN report
In a report after a fact finding mission to Sri Lanka, Maj Gen Patrick Cammaert, special envoy of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, has raised concerns about the continuous detention of these children.
The report says that the Paris Principles for which Sri Lankais a signatory emphasise the centrality of the family and community in the rehabilitation process .
Paris Principles and Guidelines on Children Associated with Armed Groups and Armed Forces emphasize the centrality of the family and community in the rehabilitation process.
However, Mr. Wellawatta says that the UNICEF officials took part in initial discussions on the process leading to the release of suspected former child soldiers.
The process of releasing them has already begun, he said, and all former child soldiers should be released by mid this year, as they are to be kept only for a maximum one year period for rehabilitation.

'They' require cardboard soldiers!

Losers at elections.
The defeated old soldier, S.F. Kalawedda's swan clan with ever-defeating Ranil, TNA Samba & others need 'soldiers' for another 'show of strength' after the general election.
Hand these 'baby soldiers' to SFK's UNJVP alliance.... |

Good news! it's great that we have done everything we can to rehabilitate and intergate these poor kids back into society so that too can build themselves a safe future and also help the country as it progress.
Many of these poor kids didn't have a choice but to do what they were forced to do...
And i had the opportunity to meet some of these kids, and they truly want to have a normal life just like any other teenage would want to
good luck to them all!
and thanks should go out to all those brave sldf soldiers who laid their lives down to bring all this to all of us! :( |

'Kalawedda' - a man who bears the scars for 40 years service so we may argue! Yes, the same Kalawedda who terminated our koti menace.
Kalwedda though, unlike maharajathuma does not kill war heroes, political opponents and Journalists. Pregeeth Ekanaliyagoda (journalist and visual designer, attached to LankaENews), Chandana Sirimalwatta (the editor of the Lanka newspaper), Chandaradasa Naiwadu (the JVP Urban Council member) and Lasantha Wickrematunga (Sunday Leader Editor) are some examples. Disrespecting/expulsion of war heroes and helping to assassinate those such as the late Janaka Perera shows the pedigree of our national leader.!!
