Tamil Nadu fishermen assaulted, driven naked by Sri Lanka Navy
[TamilNet, Saturday, 26 September 2009, 17:34 GMT]
Twenty-four fishermen from Keechchangkuppam in Naakarkoayil area in Tamil Nadu fishing in Naaakarkoayil seas in five boats Friday night were brutally assaulted and cast naked in the seas by Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) soldiers, sources in Naakarkoayil said. SLN soldiers had beaten the fishermen on their heads with the ice blocks taken by the fishermen to preserve their catch, the sources added. Fishermen in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu saved the 24 fishermen who managed to swim ashore Saturday morning and admitted them in the local hospital, the sources further said.

The SLN soldiers had threatened to open fire on the fishermen driving them into the sea, the sources said.

Their clothes, fishing nets, outboard motors, ice knives and the fish they had caught had all been confiscated by the SLN soldiers, the fishermen said.

Tension prevails among the fishermen in the coast of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu fishermen had just called of their continued boycott of fishing demanding Tamil Nadu government to take action against SLN for shooting fishermen from Tamil Nadu on the seas.

Their fellow fishermen being assaulted and driven naked has aroused the fury of Tamil Nadu fishermen, the sources further said.

SLN are saints

because Tamilnadu fishermen killed SLN sailors during the war.

Yet, SLN only get accusations for beating and not killing.

I was wondering why the thugs didn't kill the bad fishermen instead.

SLN are saints

Not true.. They are true Buddhists of Sri Lanka. :))

I'm not sure about it at all!

India is afraid of Sri Lanka, I never heard about India and Congress asking Sri Lanka to stop harassing its fishermen ( maybe because they are from South)

Never I heard, maybe I missed some news, but it's unlikely to happen. Congress is constantly bluffing its Southern electorate. Time will come when those will WAKE up. All Southern fishermen should stop fishing.

PrinceXX,

I tried to find some on Google News, without success, so far. But the last report on SLN destroying the nets , throwing out the catch and arresting the TN fishermen revealed to be true. Maybe tomorrow , have to wait, as TamilNet seems to be faster than some Indian media in some cases :))

In the case of Fishermen who go fishing near Pak, Bangladesh borders, many spend their rest of the life in Pakistan Prisons.

PrinceXX,

Did Congress ever complain to GOSL about this serious problem ? (I don't think it's a serious problem for India, more than 1 bio humans, so one or two missing untouchables is not a big deal..)

I'm just giving you some news of the last 2 weeks about Fishermen from other part of India.

So yes, it confirms that fishermen disappearing, being arrested, killed, or captured is not a big deal. Indian govt doesn't care at all !! It's BS , again !!
Then what is NOT BS ??? :))

In the case of Fishermen who go fishing near Pak, Bangladesh borders, many spend their rest of the life in Pakistan Prisons.

What you are saying is : GOI doesn't care about them or GOI is totally POWERLESS, despite claiming to be next superpower (lol).
