Colombo: Sri Lankan security forces are zeroing in on some 20,000 LTTE sympathisers scattered in various government run-welfare camps in Wanni in the guise of displaced civilians after the defeat of the rebels in May.

`It is possible that there are about 15,000-20,000 male and female activists who were directly or indirectly involved with the LTTE before its defeat,` Maj Gen Jaya Ratnayake, who is overseeing the IDP facilities and related programmes in the North, told reporters here Thursday.

Ratnayake said out of them there were about 10,000 LTTE supporters and sympathisers who were being rehabilitated at the Vavuniya welfare camps which houses over 2.6 lakh displaced Tamils.

`We are providing them with the vocational courses of their choice so that they can find suitable employment and lead a normal life after being associated with the LTTE for long,` he said.

Ratnayake said many of them are also agriculturists who are returning to the fields in the fertile north.

The top official said the police was enquiring into the possibility of the rest 5000-10,000 Tiger activists resent in various camps with a view to bring them to the mainstream.

`We will rehabilitate them,` he added.

when you want to eat a iguana...it becomes a monitor!

when you want to kill the tamils...they become ltte and ltte supporters!!

just before the war started...it was only 6000 ltte members...after the war...the number some how inflated to more than 20,000 (living in the nazi type concentration camps) while more than 15,000 (surrendered and captured) are held in torture chambers which has no access to independent observers!

Around 1400 are deing every week...the civilians are kept there for more than 2 months now...it seems nearly 12,000 peoples are dead while in the camps...

since jan 2009....civilians were arriving to vavunia .it seems so many are dead or gone missing from the camps

The United Nations reported that as of July 19, Sri Lanka was detaining 281,621 people in 30 military guarded camps in the four northern districts of Vavuniya, Mannar, Jaffna and Trincomalee.

Not easy. But indoctrinated LTTE victims are a threat to a peaceful society.

So...Kill them all or keep them in camps for their entire life ??

I think the problem with SL is the constant failure to bring down a SOLUTION.
