Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Interim Committee Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga s secretary has been given a promotion and a thumping salary increase, sources said.

Dushyanthi Karunanayake, who has been working as a Secretary in SLC has been promoted to the rank of Confidential Secretary and her salary has been raised by Rs. 35,000 with effect from this month, sources added.

Ranatunga said that there was nothing unusual in the process and explained that he was entitled to the services of a Confidential Secretary. Chairman didn t have a secretary, so my secretary was given to the chairman. Ms. Karunanayake was working at the Premadasa Stadium as a secretary, so I got her down to my office. I am entitled to have a Confidential Secretary, so now she is working as the Confidential Secretary described Ranatunga.

Ranatunga laughed off the allegations that he is misusing the SLC vehicles for private purposes. Even I use my own car. Anyone who cares to come to SLC headquarters can see that he said.

Very true Mr Rantunga must produce all documentation regarding the promotion as it happens in Sri Lanka in every instance. Not like the corrupt west Sri Lankan ethical and morale standard should be preserved at all cost at all times once it slip even by tiny amount that will be the slippery slope. It's always been the qualifications and experience been the only criteria for promotion in Sri Lanka. We do not want nepotism or any other corrupt practices that been the norm in the West to creep in to Sri Lankan society.

Kiora,
We do not want nepotism or any other corrupt practices that been the norm in the West to creep in to Sri Lankan society.

I m not saying we are corrupt free... I doubt any country is... but we should have a system that will allow to monitor these activities and have proper standards when giving new positions to people....thats why I was questioning what qualifications she had over the others for the promotions.....

Thank you for the explanation.Systems are always been in place for a long time but put in to practice and implementing the law by the authority is bit like asking the fox to guard the hen house.
