Berty, Any comments on the following.
Indian Tamils were brought in by the British to work in the planation few hundred years ago. Why is that descendant of these Indian Tamils were not given citizenship for a long time and some of the descendants have been sent back to India. What a disgrace ? They are workers of the economy which ran Sri lanka, is that what we can do for them ? This is in contrast to Tamil diaspora getting citizenship in their newly adapted western country in few years. |

The Muslims in Sri Lanka speak Tamil, why are they catergorized as a separate ethnic group, that is again only in Sri Lanka. In India for example, a person who follows Islam is known as Gujarati Muslim, Tamil Muslim etc. But for some unknown reason someone or some group of people have created a ethnic group out of them and claiming most of them came from Saudi Arabia. But the Muslims in Sri lanka don t look anything like Saudi Arabians, rather they look like any other Sri Lankans or South Indians. It probably points to their majority South Indian origin ( like the Sinhalese or Tamils).
Long time ago in history a few people have come from Bengal doesn t make majority Sinhalese are of Bengal origin. Long time ago in history a few people have come from Saudi Arabia doesn t make majority Muslims are of Arabian origin.
One might be able to do a gene (DNA) test by following the URL below to determine their ancestry.

regarding Indian Tamils in SL specially in the plantation industry are people our family spent a lot of time with. They deserve a place in Sri lanka but I am not sure of the political complications in giving them the SL citizenship. if you ask me they should be given the option to choose between citizenship or want to continue as workers!
If your question is based on your thinking of as Indian tamils they are discriminated, it is Not true..these people are happy and have a decent life..there are so many who have gone to do well in SL..
during our time in Dickoya/Hatton/Maskeliya, we used to go to Church at Dickoya and 76% of the tamil congregation are Indian Tamils..I know some of the next generation are doing quite well in SL and also went abroad.
if there is a life better than what you can get in your own country and if your happier in SL..then citizenship or no citizenship , it does not matter
hey BTW..I am a PR is HK and not a citizen but i couldn't have asked for a happier life..so why am i bothered? you get my meaning there |

Majority of the Muslims speak Tamil in SL that is true and when i was schooling in Jaffna, there were a lot of Muslims who studied in jaffna.
VP made the biggest mistake in chasing these nice people out of Jaffna.that is a different story
The choice again is with the Muslim people! we should respect them..
BTW most of the Muslims in Colombao can also speak Sinhalese! |

This is exactly what Obama said... 'they all look alike' 'but still fight among themselves'...
This is in fact the thousand year old culture of Sri Lanka....they love fighting... !
This few weeks may be one of the longest periods of the history of the island where there had not been any major fighting! But, the culture will come back and the next war will sart soon..! |

if muslims cant ask for a separate identity just because they looks like tamils(present) then how come the same racist tamil who argues that sinhalese r tamil r the same demands the same...typical tamil logic!! |
