I have an idea on as to who tarnished the name, the same who brought the sinhala only law in 1955, the same who conducted 1983 riots, the same who massacred the tamils during 1983 - 2009. Yes, I admit there are others too who tarnished the name.

Yes, it was a Tamil Kingdom, the Tamils cholas were the founders of the city of Sana Natha Mangalam or Polanaruvai as their capital. Initiallzy they built the city as their capital. They shifted the capital from Anuradhapuram to Polanaruvai. Still, you can see Tamil architecture everywhere in the Tamil Chola Capital of Sana Natha Mangalam. :))))))))

The name of the Temple is Vanvan Mahadevi Iswaram, he built that temple in memory of his mother Vanavan Mahadevi. Now you know some thing. :))))))
