It's pity that we don't speak tamil too
I can read write and speak Tamil. Although my Tamil is below my English and Japanese level.
I studied Tamil for O/L and could get a distinction for Tamil(Optional language year 10) (Vykalpitha)
Although I have forgotten many. I still can read slowly but correctly. I can read even I don't understand some.
I don't know this is still there for O/L. but at my time there were.
I took 10 subjects getting 10 D.
Now I realise that it is foolish to write Vykalpitha(year 11 english) while you go for the actual O/L english.
don't get upset for writng personal stuff.

This is indeed a fact. Anybody with some observatiion skill can identify this. It is difficult to identify a Jaffna Tamil from a Sinhalese by the looks except clothing.

Jaffna Tamils should not misunderstand us, this means your ancesters and our ancesters are same. Who are the great architects of Anuradhapura Kingdom. You can be proud of them.

Ancestors are the same and also assimilation is even happening today.
What do you say abt this....This was proven case in the Mannr region where the sinhalese were forced to speak tamil by the tamil kings! It is in the history also!
No disputes, may have happened. Similar things are even happening now.
Lot of Negombo tamils ( originally tamils from TN) now only speak Sinhalese.

| Deborak, No I am not contradicting to what I have written. SL Tamils and Sinhalese have common south indian ancestry. But having lived in an island for so long (isolated from south India), SL tamils and Sinhalese over time marry, SL tamils move to Sinhalese area and settle and become Sinhalese etc. Hence Sinhalese and SL tamils are closely related to each other than they are related to south Indians. |

so what is the problem the having within the present SL situation.
Do you think people of Negombo is unhappy. Believe me they are one of the happiest group in Sri Lanka. |

YET YOu tamils killed sinhalas for 30 years asking Peelam and sabotaged for 100 years and you don't want to live with us side by side. |

When did this happen...sure may be b4 200 years b4...have you got any info in the recent past to say this happened!
Just saying these things have been happening for years and SL Tamils and Sinhalese are all closely related.
So what is your point now? What we want to say is that leave out this useless 'race' thing and can live as a Single nation...also then Y is that diaspora is shouting at a hell saying that tamils are killed etc..even you too says so...
if we are closely related, then you have to accept the fact that Gov took the correct decision to decimate the ltte terrorists as they were a barrier to peaceful existence of Sri Lanka!

Really a dead lock situation in SL for both tamil and singhalese ....
God to save this country.
1. the clear point is Singhalese will never going to understand what is meant by the language Tamil and how crazy the native Tamil speakers are towards their language and contrary Tamils will never and ever give up unless they assured their language is not maimed at singhala hand. ( eg the manhinda speak. he simple killing the language though his intention may be good)
so bottom line is there MUST be a separate state ( not country ) in SL for Tamils , like TN in India .the other solution is, better, India should offer citizenship to SL TAMILS . Off course the 3.7 millions SL Tamils will make no difference to the Indian mass of 1200 millions .. |

How about Vellavattai Thamils, okay they may be speaking tamil now, what will their descendant speak ?
Colombo chetty and Negombo Bharathas are originally tamils from TN, what do they speak now ? Only English and Sinhala.

No problem there.
We talk about the race to prove tamils and Sinhalese are almost the same ( which is the truth) and it will help with reconciliation. For what else do you think we talk about it ?

Colombo chetty and negombo barathas all have recent TN ancestry, but they mainly speak sinhala and English. They are traders who came from TN. |
