To Add more to this,On Exam days, Jaffna and other tamil dominated areas are not examined by sinhala examinors, but tamil examinors. It is a wide spread secret that tamil examinors favour their students and let them do the copying or open book exams, even for A/L's to makre sure a higher percentage of tamils enter the Uni's.
one reason why they beg for self rule.

True. However that can vary by the amount of studies one do.
A Person in jaffna will study harder than a person in colombo due to the fact jaffna land is less produtive etc, in colombo there more business opportunities etc, so the student from colombo doesnt have to rely on education, doesnt have to study harder.
In short natural capabilies are same, but due to circumstances one can study harder than the other and have more chance of entering a uni if not for the district system.
Recent low score among jaffna students may have been due to war & associated psychological, financial problems. I never heard of the open book exam. Could be a myth. |

Once the GOSL came to know that, they decided to give all sri lankans an equal opportunity, based on the district quata. Which means, if 50 % of students are in Colombo, 50 % of Uni representation should be in Colombo.
Everyone knows Sinhalese dominated SLA killed tamil civilians from 1983 to this year. Lot of people think that in 1983 riots, only thugs killed tamil civilians in Sinhalese areas, they don t know that SLA killed 100 tamil civilians in Jaffna district at the same time (July 1983).
To avoid this happening again, if Jaffan population is 10% of Lankan population, then 10% of SLA youth should be from Jaffna.
I have applied the same logic and equal opportunity principle that was applied for the Uni selection. |
