If you have two candidates, the better man for the job should be taken
Then why education dept is not doing the same for Uni selection ? why there is a percentage selection from each districts. |

That's just silly. The army requires people based on their strengths physically, mentally and intellectually. Race has nothing to do with it.
If you have two candidates, the better man for the job should be taken, not because they're sinhalese or tamil.
That's how Tamils roll man, they just want to be there due to their 'numbers'...
Like I said, Nonsense! |

The new road show starts at Vavuniya. The Samaritans-good bad and the ugly- are around wooing the fallen people. This is indeed the human laboratory in the search of a prescription to cure the national malady. The final impression they carry home of the Sinhalese and the Government while in camps, in comparison to life under the LTTE and Prabhakaran, is the message that that will linger in their lives forever. The government is at an unfair advantage because of the damage caused by the LTTE to their children, will not be forgiven or forgotten life was virtual hell in the final days of the LTTE. If the IDPs are mishandled the government is in a boiling cauldron and a renamed LTTE will soon arrive.

Basil explained that Aceh is a good source to learn as Aceh is considered successful in managing conflict and development after-tsunami.
This is the similarity between Sri Lanka and Aceh.
Basil said Sri Lanka is trying to solve the conflict without violence.
We want it to be solved peacefully. Now are still in the negotiation and discussion processes.

Then why education dept is not doing the same for Uni selection ? why there is a percentage selection from each districts.
Because there is a limitation of access for good education based on Districts.
If you concider, all the best schools are in Colombo, then Matara and then Kandy. But what are the famous schools in Monaragala ..? |

Though I am not very please with the district basis, at least it gurantees an equal oportunity for all the people in the country to enter to the Uni's
My suggestion is to rate the schools based on thier O/L results and then give a cut off..
When all the O/L students are qualified for A/L from a school, it means thier education level is very high.
To Add more to this,On Exam days, Jaffna and other tamil dominated areas are not examined by sinhala examinors, but tamil examinors. It is a wide spread secret that tamil examinors favour their students and let them do the copying or open book exams, even for A/L's to makre sure a higher percentage of tamils enter the Uni's.
Once the GOSL came to know that, they decided to give all sri lankans an equal opportunity, based on the district quata. Which means, if 50 % of students are in Colombo, 50 % of Uni representation should be in Colombo. Cause there is not scientific evidence that based on the region there is any difference of capabilities of the brain Edited By - lankaputha - 1 Jul 2009 10:09:03 GMT |
