COLOMBO, Sri Lanka Sri Lankan police say they have arrested a popular astrologer for publicly predicting President Mahinda Rajapaksa`s imminent ouster from office.

Police spokesman Ranjith Gunasekera confirmed Friday that Chandrasiri Bandara has been arrested so police could investigate the source of his prediction.

Bandara has a popular weekly television show and writes a column for a pro-opposition newspaper. Gunasekera says Bandara told an opposition meeting last week the prime minister would become president in September and the opposition leader would become prime minister.

Rajapaksa`s popularity has grown sharply since the military defeated the Tamil Tiger rebels last month. Media rights groups have complained of a subsequent crackdown on free speech.

Oh! this astrologer must be the future 'soothsayer' for the wobbling UNP.
Ranil also was predicting the fall of the Rajapaksha administration since a long time, but it did not happen so far.
If Mr. Bandara's prediction is as good as that of Ranil's, Mahinda Rajapaksha can lead the country for another generation.
Chandrasiri Bandara perhaps wanted to say the fall of the tiger terrorists' brutal rule in the North....
I would say that this a 'slip of the pen' of the astrologer!
Pardon him, Mahinda!

UNP no way can see a proper path to come back to power. Now try to mis-use public faith on astrology to build a mind game.

UNPers have pushed this foolish man into a deep trouble.

By the way, how does the news source measure 'FAMOUS'? We never knew such a astrologer in Sri Lanka..

BBC Sinhala.com says the same thing.
Mr Bandara - who has a weekly television show and writes controversial political columns for a pro-opposition newspaper - is one of the most popular astrologers in the country.

most popular among the people going behind him.

Did GOSL had stupidly walked in to a a well planed trap orchestrated by the opposition, backed by the western political consultants to make a rift between a useless PM and the Mahinda Rajapakse clan who wants more of the family in political power to form a Rajapakse Dynasty?

If you watch his TV shows anybody can learn who he is.
He fools the unsuspecting watchers by showing his ability to tell Lagna and planet positions instantly when a listener give his birth time by phone.

This is done by entering the birth time and date to the computer programme by the girl who assist him and all the magic is performed by this idio t by reading the screen in front of him.

Subsequently he earns millions by charging the people get his service privately. Police must disclose this also to the public in their investigation. Sure he secured a big amount from UNP .

Two foreigners involved in a LTTE suicide plot to kill Sri Lanka President - report
Sun, Jun 28, 2009, 09:11 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
June 28, Colombo: Two foreign nationals along with three drivers attached to international aid agencies along with two Sri Lankan politicians have reportedly been involved in a suicide plot to assassinate the Sri Lankan President, a Sri Lankan Sunday weekly revealed.

According to the Nation newspaper, the Police Intelligence have commenced investigations to arrest the two politicians said to be involved in the plot with the help of three drivers attached to international aid agencies.

The Western Province Intelligence Unit has alerted the Presidential security when the plot came to light. Following their investigations so far, Intelligence Unit have arrested an American and a Swedish attached to these organizations along with three high ranking Tiger members, the Nation reported.

The weekly said that investigations have uncovered plans for a suicide bomber to explode himself with the help of the politicians while the three drivers attached to UNOPS, UNHCR and Save the Children offices in Vavuniya have transported the explosives to be used for the attack.

Investigations have revealed that 40 kilos of potent C4 explosives have been brought to Colombo from Kilinochchi in the petrol tanks of the INGO vehicles. The bottoms of the petrol tanks have been made removable to conceal the explosives and to later retrieve them.

The UN said on June 20th that two of its local staff members, one from UNHCR and one from UNOPS, have been arrested but they were not aware of any charges or details of any accusations.
