Astrology believed to be use correctly & accurately in pre-historic era. But that science has vanished with the time. There are enough researches in universities to unveil the faded science.
So called astrologers in Sri Lanka (descended recently from India) have no idea of the true science behind. They are just a subset of poor society who struggles for next meal. (some have/had luck to earn considerable money)
I would prefer if laws are imposed to band these fake story tellers so that people needn't fear unnecessarally. (and find more productive ways to overcome day to day issues) |

We are in the 21 century, still millions of sri lankans become victims of these astrologers.
Mostly I found their victims are women, housewives, I dont say they misuse women, but they manage to fool women and earn money. |

| Having given MR and his administration its due for an excellent job in eliminating terrorism from SL, I think its time to recognize that the extreme sensitivity and almost knee jerk extreme response to any sort of criticism that is being displayed by our current leaders (not just this incident) has worrying implications for the future of Sri Lanka as a democratic, just, and free society. Even more worrying is the complete disregard for the rule of law and the weakening of every instrument for upholding the law, which is not going to help make Sri Lanka a nation where outsiders want to invest and help develop. |

BS.
IF AL MIGHTY USA believed that LAW will solve all the problems, they would not have established prison camps in former Soviet Bloc countries of the Eastern Europe and GuantanamoBay camp.
What GOSL doing is right. GOSL has the back bone to believe in them. |

| AnuD, I am not talking about anti-terrorism law, I am talking more about civil and mundane criminal laws which apply to day to day life and makes a society predictable, accountable and functional. After extreme problems have been dealt with by extreme methods, it takes a smart leader to recognize that those methods won't work in every sphere of governance. There is a fine line between courage or backbone, as you put it, and stupidity - it doesn't appear to me that the folks in charge know or care about the difference. |

Leader of the country should set an example to the fellow citizens. This remind me the story of a mother crab! What a joke. Auspicious time for every thing! from opening ceremony of the parliament session upto to go to the toilet.
Mahinda and most of the cabinet ministers go after astrologers begging mercy and protection from the spirits and ghosts.
Premadasa was a well known believer of astrology. Sirima and Anura did too. Sai-Baba predicted Anura's take over the presidency. From the birth to the death our people carry horoscope.
Today astrologer are suppose to talk only in favor of Mahinda!!
At this rate we don't need a help of a Astrologer to predict his political life!

'The 13th Amendment didn t fall from the sky. Well, the parippu droppings aside, it did have a logic from India s point of view. That logic was based on perception of the Sri Lankan situation. But what was situation in 1987 is not situation in 2009 and will not be situation 100 years from now. Nothing is cast in stone. Federalism was a foregone conclusion four years ago. It is not now. Things change.' |
