Suicide bomber kills two soldiers in PoK
Islamabad (PTI): A suicide bomber on Friday targeted an army vehicle for the first time in Pakistan- occupied Kashmir killing two soldiers and injuring three others.
The attacker blew himself up near the army vehicle in the Shaukat Lines area of Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK, early this morning, the army said in a statement.
Two soldiers were killed instantly. The three injured personnel were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital in Muzaffarabad, the statement said.
Cities across Pakistan have been hit by a wave of suicide attacks and bombings, most of them targeting security personnel, since the army launched an operation against the Taliban in the northwestern Swat valley and adjoining areas.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for today's attack, but it could signal that Taliban militants facing Pakistani army offensives in the northwest are prepared to retaliate against Pakistani forces in PoK as well.
However, there had been no such attacks in PoK so far.
Indian officials say a number of banned militant groups, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, have bases in PoK.

USA for a high-profile aide for India
Press Trust of India
WASHINGTON, 25 JUNE: Based on the belief that the Indo-US tie has lost much of the momentum seen in the early era of the Bush regime, a Task Force report today listed a number of suggestions for President Barack Obama. Among these requests was the inclusion of India as a G-8 member, the opening of a new Consulate in Bangalore, and the appointment of a high-profile aide for New Delhi. As the two new governments in New Delhi and Washington get ready to deepen and strengthen the bilateral ties, The report, titled Enhancing India-US Cooperation in the Global Innovation Economy, identifies 11 areas which its authors say would take the Indo-US relationship to a new level.
It observes that even as significant economic sectors in both countries are becoming more closely intertwined, the political climate in the USA and India is turning increasingly against such globalising forces: It will thus require sustained leadership at the highest levels of government and the private sector in both nations to nurture and enhance the current economic partnership. It states that: President Barack Obama should assign ownership of the bilateral dialogue to a high-profile aide and this person should promptly meet with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's newly-formed government to define a mutual vision for economic interaction in the years ahead. The report further requested that: The meeting should also prepare the ground for a productive visit to India by Obama, ideally during his expected trip to Asia later this year. Both governments, either through the High Technology Cooperation Group or a similarly-focused body, are asked to undertake a comprehensive review of the export controls that still inhibit bilateral trade in high-technology goods and services and develop a joint plan for their maximum-possible reduction. Urging the two countries to take steps to fully implement the nuclear agreement, the report calls for India and the USA to sign a free trade agreement focused on innovation economy, and to conclude an investment treaty.
