A leading polls-monitoring group in Sri Lanka said yesterday it was looking at the possibility of bringing in foreign observers for the elections to the Jaffna Municipal Council and the Vavuniya Urban Council, an official of the group said.
We will have about 700 local observers for the Uva Provincial Council polls and about 100 for the Jaffna and Vavuniya polls. But Tamil political parties are calling for foreign observers to monitor the polls in Jaffna and Vavuniya, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohan Hettiarachchi told Daily Mirror.
The Peoples Action for Free and Fair Elections said it would have to obtain the permission of the Elections Commissioner and the Defense Ministry if PAFFREL was to deploy foreign observers and added that this matter would be discussed with the EC and the Ministry soon after the closing date for receiving nominations.

Tigerforce,
you can keep these people for even another 10 years in camps but thier quest for freedom will never end
I know that you and others like you behind the formation of this 'transnational government' will be happy to see these people eke out their existence in these camps. Otherwise, you will not have material for propaganda and to keep going in the wrong direction for another 10 years. Just don't waste other people's time and money. Waste only yours and that of people who still want to keep our people in backward conditions to meet the interests of foreign powers.

Tigerforce,
Are you really a 'true' Tamil or a European Tamil? Why are you still pushing the ill-informed and misinformed expatriate Tamils (for at least 10 years by pro-LTTE print & electronic media) to protest in the streets of North America, EU and Australia? Only China, India, Japan and their allies have influence in Sri Lanka. FIDIOTS! They still do not want to accept that these former colonial powers (and the penal colony) do not have much power in Asia anymore. As for Canada, the last thing the Canadian government would want to do is to uspet the Chinese and Indian interests. Read. Learn about the emerging world order. What is happening in Iran is also a reflection of this new world order. It is being reshaped as I write this.

Not going to happen. Why do we need foreign observers for local elections? |

| It seems like diaspora aid (Mercy Mission) would be channeled through India by ICRC. SL accepted that. |

God Save the Queen and Country!
May be the Chinese will? Or, the Indians? Wait....may be Arjuna Mahendran will? Who cares? UK is the country most responsible for leaving in place a political system that lead to the death of over 100,000 Sri Lankans. After Partition, UK sold weapons to Indian and Pakistan! They are still at it. But, the Chinese have not forgotten how the British humiliated them. Our, people, on the other hand have a very short memory. They will do ANYTHING for a job.

Post that question to Tamil Net. They will provide a 1-page response explaining the virtues of having Western Europeans and their descendants sit on everything. Who knows. May be, if you are lucky, a US-based professor will give you a detailed response on the virtues of a true democracy and how the elections should be conducted (i.e., having the Supreme Court allow the candidate who lost the election become the President). Ha...ha...

This is a country that defeated a ruthless terrorist group , they didnt defeat it but wiped the diasporas arse with it . So the USA that is in trillions of dollars of debt and is still getting their kids killed in the wastelands of Afganisthan and iraq should be the bottom ranked nation eh ? |

Published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C., FOREIGN POLICY was a 2007 winner of the National Magazine Award for General Excellence.
this explains why North Koria and Iran have been ranked as failed states.
US is the most vulnerable country in this world. their debt has hit the roof and being engaged in two wars.
they have enemies more than any other nation in the world. |
