What is in this boat that is so important that it MUST be unloaded in SL?
Humanitarian ship M V Captain Ali', carrying relief materials for the internally displaced people in Sri Lanka has now moved out of Indian waters and is currently anchored in international waters.
Port authorities said the ship was given 200 litres of fresh water on Sunday, after the ship had run out of water and two of the 13 crew members reported sick. Following this, the port sent water and food supplies to the crew.
The ship had arrived in Chennai last week, after it was turned away by the Sri Lankan navy and not allowed to unload its relief materials in the island nation. Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi had written to external affairs minister S M Krishna to mediate in the issue and persuade the Sri Lankan government to let the ship unload the relief materials. |
