There are about 45 thousdand Sri Lankans working in Cyprus. Many of them are domestic workers. As in other countries, they also face numerious problems. Especially after Cyprus became an EU country. There is a danger of loosing jobs of those worked there more than 10 years.
For many decades Sri Lankans demanded the government of Sri Lanka to open an Embassy there. Yet, it was not considered. However, the government has opened Embassies in useless places like Poland.
Instead of opening an Embassy the government of Sri Lanka allowed a Cyprus national to work for Sri Lanka as the Consul. He has been functioning for more than 26 years. He is 74 years. There are a lot of complaints against him. He has been charging a lot from the Sri Lankans providing embassy services like new passports, certifying of documents, and registration of births. He involves in visa rackets, job order rackets, and registration of ships under Sri Lanka flag. He has even helped LTTE members to enter EU countries using forged passports. He prepared these passports. His monthly income is more than 40,000 Euros. He has a team of Sri Lankans to help his dirty works. Many of them are accused of raping Sri Lankan maids.

Its our responsibility to STOP poor and ugly mentality against each other (specially Tamil-Sinhala), and give our hand to people those who are doing good to the country.
In elections, we will change them, when they are not good.
Its better, always.
I never disagree with you.
Is it with or with out the Sathyam???
Bankruptcies happen, nevertheless india is developing fast. Sri lanka should too now that the war is over.
India did not help purely to Sri Lanka in any sector...
India being are larger neighbour without them helping us directly we get benefitted.
For example a foreign tourist visiting india may visit lanka too. A foreigner decided to setup a venture in india may end setting it up in lanka.
