A 600-km railway line in Sri Lanka, which hit international headlines during 2004 s tsunami after more than a 1,000 passengers were killed after being hit by powerful waves, will now be rehabilitated by Indian Railways.
Having bagged the $74 million export order from Sri Lanka s Transport Ministry, as part of the Southern Railway Line Upgrade Project, Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES), a public sector undertaking under the Railway Ministry, will upgrade the Colombo-Matara railway line.
The project will see RITES rehabilitate a 1,100-km track on this section, which has extensive passenger train movement and is a crucial rail link in Sri Lanka.
The plan is to supply around 20 DMU rakes and three locomotives for the project. While the diesel locomotives will be manufactured at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, the DMUs will be manufactured at Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, sources said.
Beggars Get the DMUs manufactured from Chennai ...
Wat a Proud State Srilanka is !
