Sri Lankan troops have unearthed the largest haul of weapons and ammunition discovered since the defeat of Tamil Tiger rebels last month, the government said.

Hundreds of automatic assault rifles, mortar bombs and land mines were found during a two-day search in the north of the island.

A clearing operation was also under way in the area where Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed last month.

`Troops conducting search and clear operations in the Wanni areas uncovered some more LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) weapons, ammunition and explosives,` the defence ministry said.

Military officials said the discoveries made over the weekend formed the largest haul since the government`s recent victory over the Tiger rebels ended decades of ethnic conflict.

This is why the diaspora and the HRW want GOSL to free the civilians ASAP from the holding camps without clearing the tiger remnants.

S Korean ships arrive in Lanka with arms, computer sets

Colombo, Jun 15 (PTI) Two South Korean ships carrying arms and educational items for Sri Lanka arrived here this morning on a goodwill visit to the island nation, a navy official said.
'Some'integrated arms'were provided by South Korea on its own,'the official said adding the ships were given a 21 gun salute on anchoring at the port here.

While'Destroyer', one of the ships of South Korean Navy, brought in'integrated arms', the other one, a combat logistics ship, contained educational items including 50 computer sets to be donated to institutions in the island nation, he said.

South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Choi ki-Chul and some citizens of the country were present at the port to welcome the two ships which are on a three-day goodwill mission to Sri Lanka, the official said.

During its stay, the South Korean team led by Rear Admiral Kim Dong-Kyun, the commander of Navy Cruise Training Task Group, will call on Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Navy Chief Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, among others.

Mr Justice Saunders said: 'This was a protracted, deliberate breaking of a law. These are very serious offences which warrant substantial sentences.

'The terrorist law has to be obeyed as part of our obligations internationally.'

The judge said the case was exceptional because, at the time the offences were carried out, the Tamil Tigers were not a banned group in Sri Lanka because of the ongoing peace talks with the Sri Lankan government.

The judge told the Old Bailey: 'He is a thoroughly decent man who deliberately broke the law in support of a cause he fervently believed in.'

Thank you peelam die-ass-pora for your hard earned money by doing toilet cleaning. GOSL does not need to spend more on arms.
