S Korean ships arrive in Lanka with arms, computer sets
Colombo, Jun 15 (PTI) Two South Korean ships carrying arms and educational items for Sri Lanka arrived here this morning on a goodwill visit to the island nation, a navy official said.
'Some'integrated arms'were provided by South Korea on its own,'the official said adding the ships were given a 21 gun salute on anchoring at the port here.
While'Destroyer', one of the ships of South Korean Navy, brought in'integrated arms', the other one, a combat logistics ship, contained educational items including 50 computer sets to be donated to institutions in the island nation, he said.
South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Choi ki-Chul and some citizens of the country were present at the port to welcome the two ships which are on a three-day goodwill mission to Sri Lanka, the official said.
During its stay, the South Korean team led by Rear Admiral Kim Dong-Kyun, the commander of Navy Cruise Training Task Group, will call on Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Navy Chief Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, among others. |
