The dailymail.co.uk, has published a pictorial account of war zone after its reporter had a trip over the area with Ban-Ki-Moon.
They are extensively reporting about the war damage and depict the area as the disaster zone, but have forgotten, it`s a extra-ordinary temporary living area, which became a tent city, after
LTTE forcing people to settle there.
I post one of the photos they publish to post here. The level these western journalists understand our local situation shows by the caption of the photo. They described the lorry as a bus..! Also, though they talk about the white flag of on the lorry, deliberately of due to negligence, no mention about the LTTE green sand-bag bunker just next to the lorry.
The world is always looking at our problems through the western glasses. These people have no ground experiences to explain what`s going on. Even Banki-moon said, he has been so many places in the world, but Manki-Farm is the most appealing places he came across.
That statement shows the capacity of this UN head for that position.
He must compare the camp life with the death and fear those people faced all these months and, not the facilities they have there. Facilities, anyone can offer. But the security only came through the blood of SLA.
In SL IDP camps, almost no death is reported (as I was in news), due to unexplained reasons or starvation and poor health. Bank-moon must visit drought and war affected Saharan regions to see how people suffer there. Or, AIDS victims in Lesotho and SF remote areas. Or, next to his own country, how North Koreans are starving in winter.
Sri Lanka IDP camps must have more facilities, and GOSL is doing a lot to make the situation better. Even Akashi said the camps were relatively good.
Sri Lanka is facing a tough challenge from this west propaganda. Its Sri Lankan`s responsibility to counter that, at any peaceful mean that each of us can access (like writing in these forum).
