The war has ended. The entire leadership of
LTTE has been destroyed. According to DBS J the entire Tamil nation in a state of shock, despair, and denial of the events that lead to the destruction of an organization that was so careful and secretive in protecting its leadership. I am not here to write about how T. Prabhakaran died nor do I wish to propagate rumors on his subservient lieutenants` deaths. I am here to discuss our future options, it is imperative to do so either we are Tamil or Sinhalese.
We have all, Sinhalese and Tamils alike, played a major role in it, be it on ground fighting the enemy or on the web posting and countering propaganda. The fact remains that many people have died Sinhalese have 37,000 casualties, Tamils lost over 29,000 dead and another 30-40,000 injured. IDP Camps have close to 300,000 people waiting to go back home to shattered lives and a state of uncertainty.
After the World War in 1945 there was also a similar situation. The German, Italian nations and the
Japanese were in a state of despair and shock too. But what made them special was their ability to reconcile, recognize their weaknesses, and find common ground to rise above the ashes to build stronger economies and subsequently stronger countries. We must, especially the Tamil groups should capitalize on this opportunity. The hatred should stop now. We are so close together but far apart.
The Japanese and the Germans did no fester on their defeats but instead moved beyond those difficult situations by embracing peace and recognizing the war propagated by them was a useless endeavor. In retrospect those who support LTTE should realize this and capture the moment to move forward to create a greater country in that island called
Sri Lanka. The end of the war should help bring the economic stability and development that gave rise to the rebellion. There are roads-bridges to be built factories need Tamil experts who are elsewhere. The country needs the experts who left. In the pipeline irrigation schemes to bring fresh water to
Jaffna and a super highway interconnecting Tamil Nadu are a small amount of work that is pending.
We must learn to move on from this point, if we continue to remain bitter and unforgiving, should we not look back again at Germany before WWII.
Dear Diaspora please do not let history repeat itself.
