LTTE chief V. Prabhakaran`s wife Mathivathani, daughter and younger son Balachandran were found shot dead on Wednesday.

Their bodies, having gunshot wounds in the head, were found a day after pictures of Prabhakaran`s body were released by the Sri Lankan authorities.

The bodies were found in the Nandi Kadal lagoon area barely 600 metres from where Prabhakaran`s body was recovered by the Sri Lankan Army.

Balachandran was barely 13. Prabhakaran`s wife and daughter were not in Europe as believed but right there alongside the LTTE chief as he fought a losing battle against the Lankan forces.

According to reports, the family was gunned down by the security forces as it tried to break out of the no-fire zone. Another 150 bodies were found in the lagoon area.

Colonel Karuna Amman, a rebel LTTE leader and now the Lankan Minister for National Integration and Reconciliation, said: `I am very sorry to hear about the family`s death. But on the battlefront, one can`t blame the army. Prabhakaran could have saved the family but he made a lot of mistakes. President Rajapaksa would have given them amnesty.

Prabhakaran`s family became the collateral damage in these operations. Mathivathani was like my sister. The children used to play in our house, he said.

This is really a bad news. Velu and his son were legitimate targets because they are LTTErs. But, rest of his family is not. I am vehemently against targeting families of LTTErs. This is tragic. Defencewire said something like Soosai's family too. Guys.. this is a crime if it is true. You cannot simply go killing people. LTTE is done and dusted. It is time for reconciliation.

Very sad, but whose fault. Prabha himself drag his familly to their tragic end. He could have send his familly to the govt controlled area like soosai did.

Didn't everyone say Prahbakarans' daughter and youngest son and in some cases his wife too, were sent off way before SLA went into Vanni?

If this is true, the little kid and the daughter should have been spared.

If there had been no reports of them not being in the battleground, which is what most sane people would think any man would do, keep loved ones away from war, I'm sure the government would have given amnesty. Its a shame, just another victim of an unwanted disgusting war when compared to the lives they could have lived.

Not just this family, most of the other families too were slaughtered. This is a war crime and a crime against humanity as most of the family members were non combations.

As reported by the media, LTTE's former police and 'political wing' chief and chief spokesman Nadesan, his family, Pulidevan and his family and Ramesh and his family have all died and their bodies discovered by the Special Forces. Defense Wire

So now you understand why the govt even has put restrictions on the Red Cross and taken the doctors into custody.

DVLADV,

Fact remains, the LTTE never allowed non-combatants (including the top brass family) out of the war zone, they did not heed calls by anyone to do so. Out with the 'crocodile tears' now about non-combatants.
