This is an Astounding, Historic, Landmark, Victory for His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and our Security Forces.

The people have clearly approved the President's action plan for Sri Lanka.

These margins of victory for the UPFA are truely unprecedented for any party in the entire electoral history of Sri Lanka.

The Western Province is a historical stronghold of the UNP due to the large no of Urban voters who historically support the UNP. Now however, the Urban voter is with Mahinda.

Mahinda's SLFP led UPFA won 31 out of the 36 electorates.

UNP only managed to win the five electorates inside the Colombo Municipality and that too, barely scraped through in Borella and Colombo East.

Western Province UNP'ers like MH Mohomed, Rajitha S and Milinda Moragoda and Gamini Lokuge, Mahinda Samarasinghe etc have deffinitely Strengthened the Mahinda Rajapaksa Govt in the west.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake's Horana electorate in Kalutara district tops the list for the UPFA at this election. UPFA got almost 76% of the votes in Horana while getting 75% from Gampaha and Dompe electorates in the Gampaha district.

The one time King Makers like the JVP and SLMC are history.

The UNP barely crossed the 20% mark in a majority of the electorates.

Congratulations, dear President Mahinda Rajapakse. The vast majority of the population has endorsed your policies and appreciates your
achievements. Thank you for liberating our motherland from the brutal
terrorist outfit Tamil Tigers. Pressure is being built up in the world capitals to reverse our progress. Please don't give in. We are

CONGRATULATIONS MR.PRESIDENT!!

Mahinda Chintanaya has paid heavily in favor of this election victory!
You and your government has done a good job in eliminating the brutal wanni terrorists!
With Prabhakaran's hours (not days) counted, the election victory is a strong backing for the straightforward march of our SLDF under the guidance of the RUHUNU PUTHA or the modern DUTUGEMUNU to liberate the country from the most brutal terrorist outfit in the world!
You are winning the terrorist war....
Next war to win is the economic war!!
You have the courage and the ability to do so....
People are with you...
Next Presidential election will be a.... ONE HORSE RACE!

Ranil Wickramasinghe's wobbling UNP paid a huge price for this election debacle.
How long can RW stay on the UNP throne?
Although RW says that he did a good job in signing the 'so-called' peace accord with the wanni tiger terrorist VP, the intelligent Sri Lankan voters have not pardoned RW for the biggest betrayal of the United Sri Lanka.
Its very difficult to see how the UNP can come out of the coffin, to lead SRI LANKA to prosperity under the Proud Lion Flag from North to South & from East to West!!

The main opposition, the UNP, secured 29.6 percent of votes while the JVP had 2.4 percent.

The three districts of the Western Province, Gampaha, Kalutara and Colombo have 91, 87 and 76 percent of Sinhala population respectively.

Rajapaksa s UPFA lost all seats in Colombo city where the Sinhalese are only 41.4 percent, showing that the voting was clearly on ethnic lines.

The province holds 51 percent of the country s wealth.

Commenting on the elections, Journalist Kusal Perera writes: This Western Provincial Council election thus shows a very strong polarisation of the Sri Lankan society along ethno-religious lines. The Sinhala voter has not bothered how it would live in a fast deteriorating economy, with consumer prices flying higher, the rupee gradually losing its buying power, all democratic life brutally suppressed and large lay offs in the private sector due to the financial crunch weighing heavily on their lives, given the promise that the Tamil terrorists would be completely wiped off.

'It's now getting more clearer. We are a stubbornly dividing society with minorities not wanting to have any say in what the Sinhala government does here. The question therefore is, what the future would be, if this trend persists with Colombo governments sticking to their racist politics for Sinhala votes. Not giving the minorities due recognition, but not wanting them to go away either. A dog in the manger no doubt , the journalist commented.

Now that the Govt has confined the tigers to a small strip of land and the Elephants to Colombo Municipal Council limits, the Govt and the Provincial Council should get down to serious work for which they are elected. We could start with clearing the city of the garbage.Look into the health sector where kids are dying due to substandard medicines, fight those who use guns and not pens, rehabilitate the IDP's,bring to justice the child abductors and murders (even if they obtain their Manape)curb corruption and bring about fiscal responsibility and accountability.Appoint the long over due Constitutional Council and let the poor Election Commissioner retire.Lets put the political agenda in the back burner and get down to saving the country from economic disaster and total lawlessness.
