Sri Lanka truce urgent, says Britain
April 07, 2009 (LBO) - Britain has renewed its call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Sri Lanka and urged Tamil Tiger rebels to release civilians being held as a human shield.

Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, has commented on the situation in Sri Lanka following worrying reports of fighting in civilian concentrated areas within the country, the British Foreign Office said in a statement.
`Recent reports suggesting that the Sri Lankan military have now captured all the territory outside the so-called `no fire zone` and that fighting is now going on inside the zone, where the civilian population is concentrated, are deeply worrying,` Miliband said.

The British government remains very concerned at the plight of civilians caught up in the fighting between the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels, he said.

`The need for a humanitarian ceasefire is now even more urgent.`

Miliband said it is vital that civilians are able to move away from danger to safety.

`Nothing excuses the reported use of civilians by the LTTE as a human shield.

`But nor does the LTTE`s behaviour excuse any failings by the Sri Lankan government to meet the high standards expected of democratic governments in conflict,` he said.

`The LTTE must allow civilians to move to safety. And the government of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan military must exercise the utmost restraint.`

This war would have been over months ago if the armed forces had smashed through the LTTE bastions unleashing hell all around with no concern for civilians safety and welfare. Troops, to their credit, went out of their way risking as they did their life and limb to minimize collateral damage and to carry out humanitarian operations sapping their energy.

Dear Donkey British Foreign Secretary,

We really don't give a flying BLEEP about what you say. Please remember that we're no longer a colony. In fact, we're not even under the Queen's rule. We are a republic. We don't take orders from you white men any more. Please attend to those donkey LTTE supporters in your own country before they start causing you problems. They view you as their god-given white masters for now. But who knows, they might change their mind these days.

You can tell us to talk peace with our terrorists AFTER you've reduced Al Qaeda to an 8 square mile patch of land and killed almost all of their leaders. Until then, watch us and learn, whitey!

British Foreign Secretary,

Can you ask the same question for UK for Iraq?
How many millions of civilians died in Iraq after your invasion?
