Sri Lanka Army`s 55 division continuing its operations in the last rebel stronghold of Puthukkudiyiruppu in the northern Mullaittivu district has made further progress in the battle field and neared the no fire zone declared by the government to protect civilians, defense officials said Saturday.
The troops operating in the south of Puthukkudiyiruppu had progressed a further 300 meters enabling them to locate themselves just 1.5 km away from the no fire zone in Puttumatalan area, the officials added.
Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said the troops are consolidating in the areas already captured. Search operations had led to the discovery of large haul of weapons belonging to the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The troops say the rebels have effectively been limited to just21 sq km of territory in Mullaittivu, with 20 sq km being the no fire zone.
It is believed tens of thousands civilians are still being trapped in the conflict zone and the international community has called on both sides to refrain from attacking the civilians.
The LTTE controlled over 15,000 sq km of territory when the government`s military offensive began in 2006.
The LTTE which sought to create a separate homeland for the minority Tamil community have faced a string of defeats for the first time since their separatist campaign began in the mid-1980s.
More than 70,000 people have died in the conflict.

From 15,000 sq km to 21 sq km, one war is ending....?
From military win to political win,..many 100s KM have to go from now.
From the other side, the most critical question is, what the side (LTTE) deserve, when they lost the war...?
I wish, GOSL will not over-estimate the military win to adjust political plan. Can MR maintain the balance...?

15000/3 = 5000 per year. Not a bad number. Tamils can get that number since it is a multiple of 100. |

| Filtering the civilian from the militant is the biggest task now. I hope that civilian will be unharmed in this operation. |

Sanasare Talks Like Brian Senevirathne.
I dont know this person, but I am sure your comment is not a positive remark.
What you like to see that I am writing..?
More war and complete eradication of Tamils..?
Please stop doing strange allegations, and remember, I never compare you to any person. For me, ANUD is ANUD.

This should be very unfair for you in this free world.
More war and complete eradication of Tamils..?
SLAF did not bomb Wellawaththe or Tamils living Galla ever.
So, it is unfair to talk about complete eradication of tamils.
The truth is tamils are even in Matara, Tangalla like areas. |

SLAF did not bomb Wellawaththe or Tamils living Galla ever.
And SLAF will not bomb Tamils (civilians) even in the last pocket of LTTE. I dont think any person with a bit of brain can expect that.
I believe, GOSL is doing the war, with a better humanitarian face than some elements expect. I think, you also agree with that simple fact. |
