UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs John Holmes has disclosed the way in which the LTTE is endangering the lives of innocent Tamil civilians.

Briefing the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka, he opined the terrorist outfit simply disregards their safety and welfare. They are preventing civilians from leaving the battle zone for safety. Mr.Holmes said his office and UN representatives are working closely with the Sri Lankan Government to facilitate the welfare and safety of trapped civilians. He declared that adequate food has been dispatched to the civilians and the displaced. The LTTE is using heavy military machinery among the Tamil civilians whom they have detained as hostages. He underscored that the LTTE claiming their desire is to champion the cause of the Tamils, has lost their heart for these innocent Tamils attempting to escape from their grip.

You are wrong Mr Holmes!

LTTE ALWAYS endangered lives of civilians. They simply care too hoots for the civilian sufering and lives. Not only now but for last 25yrs!

In the current phase, since feb '07 when Madu offensive was started they have kept civilians as hostages. Just imagine the utter suffering by these civilians going from place to place, no where to sleep, no toilets, no proper medical help, carring all their belongings even if they are old and infirm, not knowing where the next meal will come from, open to rain/ heat/ jungle/ animals/ snakes, LTTE constantly harrasing and kidnapping kids, building bunkers/ earth bunds, shooting, killing, burning tamils who tries to escape etc. History repeats from Varakai in the east.

This is why the escaped civilians have said that ' their suffering is at the edge of humanity' and said 'Do not let VP to escape ever again'

Well, what can you expect from a so called leader who said 'tamils should suffer for the benefit of the LTTE'

Shamefully- the expat tamil LTTE'rs go all over the world demontrating but not a single word against LTTE for the human suffering/killings at the hands of the LTTE !!

Isn't this the FINAL BETRAYAL OF TAMILS BY LTTE AND EXPAT PUPPETS!!

Thanks God this situation is coming to an end.
By now all SL Tamils know what their self-proclaimed Sole Representatives are capable of doing.

UN's role now is to keep the balance of powers even and let the feelings of civilians be seen by the world.

This is nothing new by John Holmes knowing his nature... civilians were always held hostage by the LTTE even in the past... this poplar tactic has been a win win situation for the LTTE.. it is a surprise to see that western diaspora never talk against these human shields...

Gaja,
That's the dilomatic message.

it is not diplomatic for the LTTE.. just a temporary strategic advantage for the LTTE.. in long term this tactic will prove to be fatal for these people.. one reason being is they are harming their own people.. thus making them unpopular among the civilians.. which a highly disadvantageous thing for a terrorist group who are calling them selves the sole representatives of Tamils...

another is you cant hold civilians for long and fight a oncoming strong army which is numerically and militarily superior such as the SLDF... true enough these shields will delay the SLDF advance a little bit but it will not stop them.... sooner or later those civilians will be liberated...

next is the IC, you think the LTTE can hide this from the IC the way they hold these civilians as shields? I dont think so.. even at the moment the UN along with the IC have discovered this cowardly act by the LTTE, thus you see the UN and IC favoritism towards the GOSL! in the end the LTTE will be held accountable for these innocent civilian deaths. the civilians who already escaped from the clutches of the LTTE has reveled many incident where LTTE has abused them and even killed their family members for trying to escape..

bottom line is you cant win a war with putting civilians to the front.. and holding them as hostages.. it might be a short term advantage for these LTTE terrorists but in the long term they will pay for all these...

John Holmes says LTTE endangering lives of civilians in Sri Lanka

Ok now...should I be happy that a white fellow has finally accepted to exist something that has been there for two years for him to see, but did not care to give a damn about it? Or was it tactical withdrawal of conscience?

Well said Joseph,

My question is what was UN doing while LTTE repeatedly displaced these civilians from their homes? Where are those pundits who talks about open prisons? Where are the real concentration camps?

Does the Government have a Primrose Path for these Tamils civilians?

Southerners are More honoured in the breach, than in the observance!!
