Minister of Transport Dallas Alahapperuma questions how US Army will act if A-Qaida leader Bin Laden is proved to be holed up in a 20 kilometer patch of land.
The Minister accused that the ceasefire calls of the Western countries in a time the LTTE leaders are holed up to a 20 kilometer patch of land in north is for saving the LTTE leaders.
Minister Alahapperuma expressed these views addressing the press conference held in the Mahaweli Center today (24) afternoon to brief about the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Provincial Council election campaign.
He said that the UPFA would have 36 election rallies at the electoral level since April 02.
The Minister said that the UPFA was too busy with welcoming the UNP members that are crossing over to the alliance. Five thousand members of the UNP in Kaluthara district are to join the UPFA ceremoniously on April 02, he said.

The UNP has found it impossible to reform itself from within, so it's supporters are voting with their feet, crossing over to UPFA. This is bad news for Sri Lanka because now more than ever, Sri Lanka needs a credible, strong opposition. What might happen is that JVP might end up leading the opposition after the next election. What a disaster that would be! Even worse if TNA becomes leading opposition party. |

Even worse if TNA becomes leading opposition party
That has been seen before!. In 1977 the TULF became the main opposition party with A.Amirthalingam as the Leader of the Opposition. |

Vary good question can this people ask this from US
Another good question. I doubt whether the Minister will have the courage ask even the US Ambassador this question in public. If he somehow picks up the courage to do so, you can be sure that he will phone the US Ambassador at earliest possible opportunity to apologise to him and tell him that it is all the usual political rhetoric and not to take it seriously. Any bets? |

We in Sri Lanaka are very good at asking questions from others.
Just After the Tsunami when 'Velu' had lost most of the sea power and other equipments. then Peramuna Govt. just waited happily assuming that he also had gone.
Did any one think USA will act or follow us in such situ.
'V P' is in SL and doing terror in his own country.
Bin Laden is responsible for terrorist activities against International community including USA.
Our SL Government/(s) gave the international status to its prodigal son than punishing him.
Earlier only RG (and his mother too) use him to bully us as younger brother where he paid the price. (his son is regretting even today)
At least now put him to the sea and get the Balance 20 Sq.M patch also to Sri Lanka.
Ambassadors are there to represent that country in SL NOT to discuss internal affairs of other countries.
We have given too many un wanted powers to them in relation to our internal matters. |

this is a good question by the minister.. but he should know that USA cant pressure Sri Lanka with the present situation... with the influence with China and Russia favoring the GOSL, USA can only shake their heads with approval of this war against LTTE terrorists...even that, LTTE is a banned terrorist group even in the USA.. so I got strong doubts that USA will want to do anything in favor of the LTTE... plus the FBI uncovering weapons smugglers to LTTE inside the USA is another interesting point here.. but if the minister talking about Rev.Jacksons remarks I dont think there is anything to be worried about since he cant do much here nor his country USA... |
