Troop of Tigons, League of Ligers - Advocates for solidarity and unity amongst
Sri Lankans worldwide.
Be the change you want to see in the world
- Mahatma Ghandi
We have been conditioned to think that those who hold the power are those holding parliament and those holding weapons. This is a fallacy perpetuated by both the GOSL and
LTTE to keep the people powerless and subservient. Their tactics of divide and conquer will always keep unity out of reach. Their biggest fear and threat is US - the people who promote unity, the people who refuse to fall in line, the people who don`t swallow the propaganda...
The Tigon represents the merging of the two prominent cultures of Sri Lanka Sinhalese (the lion) and Tamil (the tiger). The lion has historically (Asoka Dynasty) been a symbol to represent the Sinhalese race but now is cunningly used by many within the GOSL and
JHU to accommodate their separatist means and agendas through propaganda that insinuates the lion as superior, thereby creating a false notion that the Sinhalese majority have the right to dominate. The tiger was originally used by ancient Tamil kingdoms (Chola Dynasty) to represent their people but recently has been hijacked by the LTTE to falsely equate this animal symbol with terrorist activities, thereby creating a false notion that every Tamil person is also a Tamil Tiger. In ancient times, Sinhala and Tamil kings sought the aid of each other in their local conflicts and fought together against foreign threats. They married each other, spoke both languages, built monuments for each other and ruled peacefully amongst the coexisting Tamil and Sinhala kingdoms. But with the recent vocal intransigence of extremists from both sides, ethnicities are being falsely defined as pure , ignoring the facts of history that all the bloodlines of Sri Lanka have been mixed at one point or another. This group is not about pointing fingers at each other the only finger we point is at ourselves in an effort to change our mindsets to embrace unity and Oneness. We are less concerned with the politics of war, but more the unity and empowerment of all Sri Lankan people!
The Liger is a new identity (not race) to represent all Sri Lankan moderates who condem all acts of terrorism and State terror. We acknowledge that both sides commit acts no better than each other. We believe change can only happen when we see no difference and include all, so we choose to speak out for a vision and ideal of solidarity and peace. This group is mainly concerned with encouraging, establishing and strengthening the already existing relationship between Tamils and Sinhalese Lankans living abroad, however we also welcome anyone who shares our dream of non-division to join. Peace, Samaya, Amaithi, Salaam.
The tumult and the shouting dies
The captains and the kings depart:
Still stands thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
