Thank god or
Pakistani Police that our cricketers are safe without any serious injuries. The writing on the wall is there will be no Cricket not only in Pakistan, but also in the entire so called sub continent. The people who envied the IPL is now seem to be breathing easy as this incident would cause the organizers, players and spectators to rethink about attending IPL. The subcontinent is branded. It is not a safe place to do anything anymore. This was the expectation of many who were extremely uneasy about the uprising of the South Asia.
My question is that who would benefit from this negativity. Assume for a moment that there will be no Cricket in the sub continent. Prior to the winning of the world cup in 96 at the same venue, where this horrible incident has just occurred, many Sri Lankans thought cricket is a time wasting exercise introduced by the British to ruin us. There has been some truth in this argument although the game itself is not to be blamed. Today cricket belongs more to
India than England. Indians are the masters of the game and brings the highest revenue to ICC. After the 1996 victory we started to believe that the game is something that will make us visible in the world map. People have taken cricket as an option for success for their children`s future. Thirteen years later at the same venue this has turned everything back.
First of all, if ICC is ever to decide that there will be no more cricket in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan or Bangladesh, that will definitely move people away from the game. The love for the game is not strong enough to attract people to watch games that are not played on their soil. This would only distance the people, especially those in Pakistan, away from any link to an event of a western made game. Terrorist will achieve what they were aiming for.
