A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bomber was shot down in Mullaiththeevu on Friday at 11:25 a.m., civilians sources in Ira`naippaalai told TamilNet. Several civilians saw the jet explode in mid-air as it was beginning an attack run towards an unidentified locality. A huge plume of smoke followed after the flaming debris fell to earth, they said. The LTTE is yet to comment on the attack. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) spokesman Wing commander Janaka Nanayakara has denied the report that one of their aircraft was shot down in Vanni.

The civilians observers could not say in whose controlled area the wreckage had fallen. The Sri Lankan army (SLA) is locked in fierce clashes with the LTTE in areas west of Puthukkudiyiruppu.

The civilians could not identify the aircraft type - SLAF operates Israeli built Kfirs and Mig-27s and could not say what had brought the plane down. Defence writers observing Sri Lanka have long said the Tigers do not have surface-to-air missiles (SAMs).

The civilian sources in Ira`naippaalai said, however, that the SLAF, which continuously attacked Mullaiththeevu stopped flying over Vanni for 3 days after the LTTE launched an air raid against SLAF installations in Colombo last Friday night.

Sri Lanka claimed that both LTTE aircraft were shot down Friday before the pilots dropped their bombs and that one plane flew into the Inland Revenue building after being hit by anti-aircraft fire.

The LTTE said their pilots, who were earlier awarded with Neelap Puli Viruthu (The Blue Tiger Award) for five consecutive and successful flight operations of attack, were on a Black Air Tiger mission and gave military rank of Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel to the pilots.

What happened to the three pilots in that ?

Looking at the tamilnut report, it is the work of Civilinas in the CSZ and LTTE does not know anything.

Bakamoona,

I will find the other words of etymology and the roots. Give me some time.

Bath is a Telugu word for Rice dish for example Vangi bath means Rice with eggplant. This word borrowd by the Sinhala language from the other Dravidian language and the daughter language of Tamil- Telugu.

If you go to the Thirupathi Temple areas in India you can hear people say Bath to rice.

Water- thanni - wathura - it is a Tamil root word

Vaar means in Tamil digging or hauling - Thooru- a pond of water found in river beds in dried zone - vaar+thooru = vaathuru- Wathura in Sinhala

This is good news, but behind whom Velu is hiding?

A senior Tamil Tiger rebels' leader died in fighting between government troops and the rebels in the northeastern area of Sri Lanka on Thursday, military officials said Friday.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ground commander named Shankar was killed in the heavy fighting commenced around 7:30 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) and lasted till 5:30 p.m. (1200 GMT),the military said.
Shankar had led the rebel defense of Purthukudyiruppu, the last LTTE hold of less than 60 sq km.
At least 12 more rebels were killed while 30 more were injured in the fighting, the military said.
But the military did not mention the casualties of the troops.
Meanwhile, a pro-rebel website said a Sri Lanka Air Force bomber was shot down in Mullaittivu on Friday at 11:25 a.m. local time (0555 GMT), but the military denied the claim.
Sri Lankan troops are on the look out for Velupillai Prabakaran, the reclusive Tamil Tiger leader who had led the over three decade old fight in the north and east.
Prabakaran, 54, is still believed to be in Purthukudyiruppu waiting to flee the area in the face of a rapid military advance.
The rebels have lost one stronghold after another to the advancing military who are on throes of completely crushing the LTTE's fighting capability.

Why are these murderous barbarians bombing from the air a small area of land packed with civilians?

I hear hundreds of barbarians are dying in their desperate attempt to capture PTK and that is why they are resorting to indiscriminate bombing.
