Death of a true hero..
Tomorrow is the first death anniversary of Major Lalith Jayasinghe..
With all this nonsense about Sarath Fonsekas political antics, people have forgot about the real heros like Lalith Jayasinghe who risked his life to go 50 km into enemy territory littered with enemy camps accompanied by only a handfull of fearless soldiers to safeguard the motherland..
Here we are arguing whether a person requesting 2 bullet proof vehicles, 10 escort vehicles and 600 soldiers to provide protection to travel on the roads of Colombo 7 is a true hero..

of course, I would like to state that MR was with this brave soldier all the way, without any security too.

Nov 25 (LT) The war heroes memorial that was in Tangalle town was dismantled yesterday (24th) the day after the presidential election was announced. The gazette announcing the presidential election was issued at midnight on the 23rd. The war heroes memorial was dismantled and three large cutouts with President Mahinda Rajapaske s photographs were fixed instead with the mediation of Tangalle Police. more..

If Prabhakaran was so inclined he could have either relocated clandestinely to the Wanni or Weli-Oya/Manal Aaru jungles or escaped by sea to South-east Asia. But he did not do so.
Apparently he was relying very much on the massive counter-offensive being planned to destroy army defences in the Puthukkudiyiruppu region. But the debacle at Aanandapuram resulting in the deaths of 623 cadres including his northern force commander Col Theepan soured those plans.
Even as the army drew closer and closer to the beleaguered tigers the senior deputies began entreating Prabhakaran to withdraw from the war zone. But Prabhakaran , stubborn and obstinate, would not listen.

Wickramabahu to contest the Presidential elections
New Left Front leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna, speaking to reporters in Colombo a short while ago, said that he will contest the upcoming Presidential elections. He will contest against President Mahinda Rajapaksa and possibly General Sarath Fonseka who is scheduled to confirm this week if he will run for the post. (ISA) Daily Mirror
Poor old Wbahu must be quite happy to get at least 3000 votes. No mud slinging and no serious talking. A simple speaker phone and dozen or so listeners is quite enough for him. That means less money spent and less corruption, less deals, less burdens.
