He revealed that Retired Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka has requested 01 Commando officer, 20 Commando other rankers, 03 officers and 50 soldiers of Sinha Regiment 10 other Drivers and 05 members of women corps, 01 Bullet proof car, 03 Land rover jeeps, 01 Heavy vehicle, 01 Van, 26 seater bus.

The government has acceded to this request except for the 05 members of Women s Corps. In addition following 103 Security personnel and vehicles are retained by retired CDS General Sarath Fonseka for which he is not entitled nor is authorized 04 Commando officers, 24 Commando other rankers, 03 Admin and Signal officers, 17 Other rankers, 55 Cooks, Drivers, Riders, 07 soldiers of the Medical Corps and 03 cars, 07 Land Rovers, 01 Double cab, 01 Bus, 01 ambulance, 04 Vans, 09 Motor cycles.

JVP against Ranil being made PM

The JVP yesterday said that it would oppose the appointment of UNPleader Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister of a caretaker government in the event of the Opposition common presidential candidate s victory.

Dissanayake said Fonseka had agreed to abolish the executive presidency within six months of assuming office.

Mano s support for Fonseka in the balance

The Democratic People s Front would decide whether or not to support the common candidate when the party s working committee met on Thursday, its president Mano Ganeshan, MP, said.

Ganeshan said he was scheduled to have a meeting with the UNF s common candidate Sarath Fonseka on Tuesday evening to spell out the DPF s conditions for supporting him.
