Hikz.. running for cover..

United National Party General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, in response to the earlier report by Adaderana said that no such decision has been reached regarding the common opposition Presidential candidate.

In a response to an earlier news report by Adaderana, Mr. Attanayake said that that no such decision has been taken regarding General Sarath Fonseka as the common opposition candidate for the Presidential election.

Where are the new breed of UNP patriots..
All of you should now come forward and demand Sarath Fonseka as the prsedential candidate..

Think MR signed the gazette when he was in BMICH to celebrate ICASL Golden Jubilee celebrations. He walked out for few minutes.

It was a good speech, did not mention anything about voting for him or something like that and wanted people to be prepared for a responsible future.

Don't think UNF or anyone else could stop him from winning and we are not in a time of change. Obviously there are issues and so much needs to be done, but do not think UNF could do anything at the moment and people are not going to forget what President did for the country.

Conditions for endorsing his presidential candidature - Fonseka willing to negotiate with Mano
http://www.island.lk/2009/11/23/news1.html

Former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka yesterday said that he was ready to negotiate with Opposition political parties regarding any conditions for nominating him as the common presidential candidate.

Fonseka yesterday told The Island that there was nothing wrong in discussing conditions though some may find fault with such a strategy. Fonseka said that in keeping with his policy, he could discuss with Western People s Front leader Mano Ganeshan, MP his conditions to facilitate an agreement.

Can remember some LNP members did not believe Sarath Fonseka was negotiating with Mano Ganeshan when the news was published earlier..

DEWEY,

Since the jumbo cabinet will be one of the main election issues the Ranil camp will bring, I would expect that Mahinda Rajapakse is politically smart enough to reduce its size. If Rajapakse can pull a strong win, then he will not need to have every member of various parties in the cabinet. In any case, there should not be such a nonsense called 'non-cabinet ministers' without portfolios in Sri Lanka's future.

Did I mention that I am related to Mangala Samaraweera? Yet, I feel he is a Class A opportunist. He was responsible for forging an alliance with the JVP and SLFP. Then, he backed the Chandrika faction against the Rajapakse's bid for Presidency. I can tell you one thing. I am a 'Scorpio' like Mahinda (October 26 versus November 18). We do not forget those who betray our trust. Sooner or later, they will be dealt with in an appropriate manner. In Samaraweera's case, he sure had it coming! In the same token, we never forget our friends either (or those who place their trust in us). We stand firm in our convictions (just ask Thivya (:-)).

I fully endorse Mahinda Rajapakse for the Presidency of Sri Lanka.

This is not the time for a 'regime change' in Sri Lanka. Yes, there are short comings with the current administration (i.e., corruption, etc). But, fare more important things are stake in Sri Lanka. The country, I believe, is on the right tract after a very long time. I hope Mahinda Rajapakse will get re-elected and put more emphasis on development of the country and unification of its people under a common Sri Lankan identity. Let the people have time to heal from this long bloody war.

Stay strong. Be on the lookout for forces trying to bring political instability to Sri Lanka. The situation faced by the IDPs is also improving. The Tamil people should have patience - there is a lot the GOSL is doing to improve the situation. Give them time to work.

Yarlan:

I do not like the Ranil/Mangala clan either. Ranil is a 1st class traitor and Mangala is an opportunist as you said. Both not even worth talking about. However, MR had plenty of opportunity to clean up the cabinet and reduce spending for the sake of the country. My no 1 beef is the jumbo cabinet and the corruption. The problem is that we do not have a good alternative either. I wish if we had a primary system like in the US. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. Party candidate is chosen by the party itself, not the voters.
