Will this be Murali`s last tour? I hope not

Saturday, 7 November 2009 - 3:51 PM SL Time

Sri Lanka`s national cricketers will take wing to Mumbai today for a six week long tour of three Test Matches, five One-Day Internationals and two T-20 Internationals. The tourists will be hoping that they will win their first ever Test on Indian soil, something they have not managed despite playing regular cricket with the neigbouring country.

If he sticks to his plans, this series will be world`s highest wicket taker Muttiah Muralitharan`s last Test tour. Muralitharan has indicated that he would retire from Test cricket after next year`s home Test series against the West Indies.

The Sri Lankans will heavily rely on the exploits of Muralitharan, who has troubled the Indians time and again.

Sri Lanka`s formidable batting line up comprising captain Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera and Tillekeratne Dilshan will be expected to play a key role in the series.

Middle order batsman Thilina Kandamby and wicketkeeper batsman Kaushal Silva are the only uncapped players in the Sri Lankan line up.

They will have a new assistant coach in Australian Stuart Law, who has taken over from Englishman Paul Farbrace.

We need to organise some test matches in the coming year.

For ten months we have no tests, this is ridiculous. Who is responsible for this?

I heard it was SLC itself because they wanted more ODI's and T20's to rake in the cash. Disgraceful. Zaha can shed some light on this matter.

Bongs/Imp,

This is the due to the Future Tours Programme (FTP) finalized by the ICC, four years back.

The blame should go to the administrator's who held office, and it is non other than Dharmadasa who was in office at that time.

Arjuna, did his best to get some tours but it was not possible.

And recently Nishantha, attended the FTP meeting and was not able to arrange some fixtures as most of the big nations are pre-occupied but he is optimistic that he can arrange some tours but that can materialize only after the 2010 WC tournament.

Folks,

At least for Murali's sake we should organise some test matches.

Now big nations are going where the money is. Murali concentrates on ODI/T20 cos of the financial factor. If he concentrates on Test what can he possibly get going by our fixture ?!
