NEW YORK Paint the town in pinstripes!
Nearly a decade after their dynasty ended on a blooper in the desert, the New York Yankees are baseball`s best again.
The New York Yankees won the World Series for a record 27th time after an inspired performance from
Japanese designated hitter Hideki Matsui.
Matsui matched the World Series game record of six RBIs thanks to a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, which was followed by a single and a double which each allowed two colleagues to score.
That gave the Yankees a 7-3 win last night - and they take the World Series by four games to two.
Matsui was awarded the Most Valuable Player honour for the series, and the 35-year-old stressed he hopes to stay with the Yankees.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi added: `This team never stop fighting, and they got up and they got up.
`It`s unbelievable how this came together at spring training, and their willingness to be unselfish and play the game in the right way, and that`s why we won.`
