Australia suspends search for Lankan asylum seekers

SYDNEY Australia called off an air and sea search for survivors on Wednesday after a boat carrying unidentified Sri Lankans sank in remote seas far off its northwest, killing 12.
Home Minister Brendan O`Connor said there was no hope of finding anyone else alive after the boat carrying 39 went down in stormy conditions overnight Sunday, sparking frantic rescue efforts by passing ships and Australian planes.
`Medical advice received indicates that there is no further chance of survivability,` O`Connor said in a statement. `This is a tragic incident.`
Some 27 male survivors plucked from the sea by the Bahamas-registered LNG Pioneer tanker, along with one body, will be taken to Christmas Island -- Australia`s main asylum-seeker processing centre.
However, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the status of the survivors was unknown. Australia has intercepted dozens of boats carrying more than 1,700 asylum-seekers, many of them Sri Lankans and Afghans, this year.
`It`s been some time since the vessel sank. Of course it`s a great tragedy... it`s just an awful set of circumstances,` Rudd told Fairfax radio.
The boat got into trouble late on Sunday some 2,700 kilometres (1,700 miles) from Australia`s northwest in the Indian Ocean and sank during a rescue attempt by the LNG Pioneer and a fishing boat, officials said.
Asylum-seekers have returned as a major political issue in Australia this year after a sharp rise in arrivals, with critics blaming Rudd`s softening of the tough policies of his conservative predecessor, John Howard.

OPEN LETTER TO AUSTRALIA S FEDERAL PARLIAMENT PERMANENT SOLUTION TO SRI LANKAN TAMIL REFUGEES
If this concept is put in to practise one or more of the following can happen:
1. Asylum seekers arriving in Australia will drop down to zero overnight along with the first shipment of human cargo despatched to Sri Lanka.
2. Tamil Diaspora with the church and bleeding hearts will scream their heads off of genocide and human rights violation in Sri Lanka. They will go on hunger strike with hamburgers hidden under the pillow.
3. Bob Brown with all other do gooders,bleeding hearts,church ,AI, BBC, ABC will be out of work.
4. Australia can provide its best service to rehabilitate the bogus asylum seekers.
5. Tamil Diaspora will be dismantled or make some other avenues to fill their pockets.
6. Those hired politicians and vociferous professional gang on the payroll of the LTTE will be out of work.
The most important factor is in this critical situation, Rudd government must be very firm with these bogus asylum seekers. If any leniency is shown please be informed that there are 65,000,000 Tamils waiting to jump into the next available leaky boat.

Last Time I checked there weren't 65 million Tamils in SL. Why do you Singala idiots always make up numbers? How many TN people are fleeing to Western Nations? There are 300,000 Tamils in Canada, less than 5% are not from Ceylon. Why is it that there is not a mass exodus of Tamils from India, Malaysia, Singapore, African nations etc? It can't be decades of racial prejudice and systematic discrimination in Ceylon could it? Thankfully, most people understand that statistics don't lie. BTW, why don't you pack your bags and help your great nation instead of trying to stop Tamils from achieving their dreams of living in a nation where their children can be safe, have equal opportunities and have the freedom to continue their culture. |

if 5% not from sri lanka...? from where did the balance came...?

tamils cannot change there movements freely when they get bogus status.
Tamils from achieving their dreams of living in a nation where their children can be safe, have equal opportunities and have the freedom to continue their culture.
