It was MR who gave the green light to wage war against
LTTE after he weighted advice from different experts.
It was MR who provided all the necessary political leadership to carry out the war against LTTE.
It was MR who provided the financial backing to the
Sri Lanka Armed forces, something that was not done in the history of the civil war.
It was MR who recruited the correct people to prosecute the war against LTTE.
in retrospective:
CBK took the blame for loss of EP/Kilinochchi/Mulativu/Jayasikuru operation. She took the blame for not prosecuting the war and the loss of life. Her commanders have since retired and now enjoying life, they did not take the blame, it was the commander in chief who took the blame.
Without clear political leadership, anti-LTTE operation would have stalemated like the Vadamarachchi operation in 1986-87...
So therefore MR should be responsible for the defeat of LTTE and the trimmings that come with it. The Armed forces should be honored for the display of valor and persistence against the enemy.
General Sarath Fonsaka carried an all important aspect of the operation but he was only one part of the puzzle. Let us not forget there was a huge international force pressuring the government economically/politically and internally. All these opponents needed different solutions. I do not thing the revered general could have single handily won the war without the help given by many in the other branches of the forces such as the Navy and Air Force.
Dear General Fonseka, the nation in eternal debt for your services, its history will be full of colorful passages described about you and your achievements. Remember the word Eternal. Jump in to the muddy business of politics and you too would become a political slime bag. MR has gotten up to the top by extreme patience, he sacrificed himself for CBK and led a marginal life for 15 years before it was his chance. Look at SB, Karu, Ranil, all wanna be presidents who are worse than bulls in ester trying to poke at anything they see....
Do not fall victim to these forces as you are much above this. Have some patience, the next election needs 2/3 majority to bring a new constitution with stability to the country, the old ways.
Take care General
