Gota was questioned while in the US for UN conference
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was questioned by US immigration authorities on his arrival in the US as a member of the Sri Lankan delegation attending the UN General Assembly this year, National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa told reporters today.
This was not revealed to the media at that time. However, our Defence Secretary has been questioned for one hour by some US immigration officials on his arrival in the country. Nevertheless, they have no right to question him on human rights issues. Now, these foreign forces appear to have renewed their conspiracy to hound the political and military leaders who led this war to a successful completion. They are trying to use Gen. Fonseka for this purpose, NFF President MP Wimal Weerawansa said. (KB)

Sri Lankan government which expelled foreigners for such petty things cannot afford to complain about their officials been questioned for more serious offenses. Mr.Gotabaya like all other Sri Lankans who got US citizens have sworn to upheld the US constitution. The US authorities just want to make sure he does not forget it! Nothing wrong with that!

No doubt, there is a conspiracy with the support of Sri Lanka politicians, UNP and TNA in particular. If Mr Sarath Fonseka is try to play according to these politician's tunes and betray Sri Lankan Army because of his animosity with Mr Rajapakse,it would be a big mistake of Mr Fonseka and UNP. If somebody can prove UNP inovlvement. it would be a UNP suicide. Mr Rajapake should agree to JVP request to abolish executive precidency and back to previous parliament without proposional basis system.

First time hearing this kind of questioning. Did they question other delegates or for that matter defence secretaries visiting US whose army had gone to other countries viz Afghanistan, Iraq and attacked the so called insurgents and killed massive number of civilians. Isn't this double standards and bullying tactics? What to do the so called brig brother's economies are falling at least they take some action to keep the tamil tiger supporters happy. Money talks!

US has every right to question one of her citizens. In Sri Lanka we intern our citizens, torture them, abduct them, and indefinitely keep them in custody and question them as long as we please.

We must save all our war heros

It is high time to these 'HIGH' profiles stop visiting other countries and stick to Sri Lanka, liberated by them from from so called terrorism. They should also tear off all their green card lotteries. This will be a lesson to all their loving country men.

If our Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Army commander Sarath Fonseka believe in SL and believe in that their actions has brought good things for SL, why do they want the US nationality? Why cannot they resign from it and live in SL? The president brothers are not trusting the country they say they love both of them have their US residency but putting all Lankan in grave danger by some of their actions. When things get bad they will catch a flight to US, who will face the worst? We have to face the worst.

he is usa resident they have right to question him.

i feel,Real patriots of SL won't take citizenship in other countries. Why do these people who were behind the historic victory of war and salvation of the country chase behind US nationality all??difficult to undestand!! Time for SL to stand alone

Our foreign ministry should advise all our people to visit China/Iran/India/Pakistan/Libya to avoid these problems. The irony is that these countries have poor track records but the west is civilized to a greater extent, thereby attracting people all over the world. We got to admit these facts. They are not asking us to come but we are going on our own. These politicians cannot be be trusted for a cent. They are all misleading their countrymen without telling the truth. P's ghost will haunt these guys for a very long time.

If we have nothing to hide then no fear. For all those paper Tigers here, we should accept one thing that if we can picked up a Sri Lankan national KP from Malasiya then US can do the same. Can't they?

Let hope this Intellect can put the Police Admin and command right....
First to downsize the TOP HEAVY senior gazetted ranks,
and divert funds for the welfare and the wellbeing of the Rank and File.
Set up a mechanism of maintaining decipline and close supervision along the lines of change of command.
Then set up a specialised IT branch and computerise all police stations and train men to handle same for effective communications.
Set up a special Audit Unit to monitor cheques and balances Islandwide and submit proposals where funds really need to be funneled. Also have a cheque of travelling allowances claimed by those employed in the Presidential/PM/Ministerial security Divisions.
Streamline the range of vehicles brought for police use and improve maintenance of police garerge and have mobile vehicle maintenance units.
Utilise those overflowing Senior gazetted rankers form special units to undertake inquiries where there are serious complaints that come in from Divisions.
And for God sake take in talented direct ASPs with necessary qualification that are required to make changes and professionalism to the police dept that is required in this 21 century.
