JVP rules out union with opposition alliance - Intelligent decision among some Dumb Acts.

Saturday, 31 October 2009 - 12:11 AM SL Time

Oct 30, 2009 10:45 PM The JVP has ruled out a union with the alliance of opposition parties that is to be formed next month.

Speaking to `Lankatruth` website, propaganda secretary of the party Vijitha Herath has turned down an invitation to join the United National Alliance.

UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake, extending the invitation, said he saw no hurdle against the JVP`s joining the alliance as both had the abolition of the executive presidency as a key policy objective.

However, Mr. Herath said the UNA, led by the UNP, was to be formed for a different political agenda targeting the general election.

Still, the JVP could unite with a broad front of democratic forces that agree to abolish executive presidency, he added.

It is dumb to abolish Executive presidency.

Instead REFORM it.

IT is the people which makes everything bad. There are many things you can do it manage that.

Looking at the past few elections JVP is a non factor unless they have something going now because of union and student unrest.

It is dumb to abolish Executive presidency.

Why?

Instead REFORM it.

Is the problem the institution or the person holding the office?

IT is the people which makes everything bad.

Thats why there are checks and balances for all systems. When a system fails a population they should be able to find remedy from and independent body. When a country is a police or military state like SL then there is no independence or integrity in the institutions.

There are two things bad in SL.

1. Proportional electoral system.
2. Executive presidency.

Why it is bad ?

First you should explain why it is dumb to abolish it. Just saying something does not make sense unless you can give valid reasons. Its like SL saying the US HR report was wrong without being able disprove any of the key elements.

Who can define Democracy.

there are so many democracies in the world.

Sri Lanka like countries need dictators who love Sri Lanka. Otherwise, SL will be ruined.

Who can define Democracy.

In two simple sentences.
Government by the people.
For the People. (Not part of the People, whether they voted for you or not)

there are so many democracies in the world.

There are many governments called democracies but they are not. If being elected by an election in itself makes a democracy then Uganda, Zimbabwe and many other African countries should be pillars of democracies. but they are not.

Sri Lanka like countries need dictators who love Sri Lanka. Otherwise, SL will be ruined.

I don't think dictatorship is bad provided it is in the interest of the country. That is not the case in SL.
Taking about love for the country and patriots, how many of the current politicians are holding US, UK and Australian citizenships? If you love the country so much why do you need another citizenship for yourself or your family?
