Sri Lanka Women s Hockey team left for Thailand yesterday to participate in the Asia Cup Women s Hockey Tournament to be played in Bangkok which commences today and will conclude on November 10.
They will play their first match against Korea today. The other teams in Sri Lanka s Group are: Chinese Taipei, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.
Sri Lanka team is led by Wasana Ekanayake of Seetha Devi SC, Kandy and Dinesha Perera of Colombo HA is the Vice Captain. A notable feature in the composition of Sri Lanka team is that there are nine players who had learnt the game at Seetha Devi BV, Kandy and represented that school.
Sri Lanka tour party will be Wasana Ekanayake, Dilmi Dilani Kumari, Shanika Priyadarshani, Nadeeka Kumari, Yamuna Wijesuriya (all from Seetha Devi SC and Kandy HA), Chathurika Wijesuriya, Jeevanthika Keerthiratne, Madhushani Jayanetti, Pradeepa Nandasena (Navy and Defence Services) Sudheshika Perera, Nisansala Attanayake, Shanika Samarasekera, Aruni Jayasinghe (Matale HA), Lakmini Wijesundera (Sri Lanka Schools) Dinesha Perera (Vice Captain), Dilini Silva, Tharindu Thabrew, Samadhi Gunaratne (Colombo HA).
Officials accompanying the team are: Ms. Nimal Ethipola (Manageress) Dharshana Wijesinghe (Chief de Mission), Thilak Wimalasinghe (Coach), Suneetha Rupasinghe (Lady Chairperson), Shiromantha Wijesinghe (Assistant Manageress), Yvonne Darling (Judge), Maithri Wijesinghe (Official).
