| | UN questions credibility of Lanka`s self-investigations. Thursday, 29 October 2009 - 2:01 AM SL Time | | | The UN Rapporteur on executions Philip Alston, speaking to reporters at the UN, said that the Sri Lankan government has an issue with credibility and raised doubts over the outcome of a probe on human rights to be carried out by a panel appointed by the government.
In response to a question on self-investigations , he said that military investigations of allegations against their own activities did not enhance credibility. On one allegation, accompanied by a video, that the Sri Lankan military had conducted summary executions, the Sri Lankan Government had declared the video to be a fabrication based on what it called expert advice .
Two of those experts had been from the military, Mr. Alston noted. In addition that Government already had credibility issues due to its abandonment of an inquiry by independent investigators, on prior allegations, when those investigators had resigned, claiming that the investigation was not serious. Mr. Alston was initiating his own analyses of the tape. (UN)

Someone should ask Alston when they are going to publish a report on civilian deaths in Iraq caused by the US invasion.....unless you think tamil lives are more important than Iraqi lives.....
It is morally bankrupt to accuse another of doing the same thing you are doing and pretend that it is business as usual.....of course morality is an entirely foreign concept to the ltte sympathizing diaspora..... |

This is news to me, when did the UN kill civilians in Iraq? All this time I believed that UN did not authorize the attack on Iraq and it was all Bush. |

There are some LTTE diaspora who don't want to let it go.
Let what go?
As a matter of fact I think they are silent. What we are hearing is UN, EU, US, AI, HRW not diaspora as you put it.
On the other hand if you let what happens now go, what credibility have you got to persecute the Nazi's, Yugoslavians or even Sudan? |

The report was authored by an American....as an American he should have disqualified himslef from commenting, knowing full well what the Americans have done in Iraq......otherwise, he would be just another immoral hypocrite......like I said..... |

This is another SL way of thinking and this is why there is no integrity in any of the institutions. A persons Nationality, race or religion should not matter but his office. He speaks for the institution not his country, when he travels he is received as a representative of that institution and not his country and its the same with the diplomatic immunity he enjoys. |

Exactly....that's why I said that he has a moral impediment, not a legal impediment......obviously issues of morality and ethics are not something the diaspora familiar with.....
When it is convenient to you, you will extricate your race, religion, caste, etc., etc., ......when it serves you, that's all you will talk about......like 'these poor TAMILS' who are now bobing about on some ocean hoping like hell they will get landed immigrant status.......
LOL!.....so you appoint a criminal to be the head of your police department.....your background, your history,
