UNP M.P. Gayantha Karunatileke addressing the media at the UNP media unit today (21), said this Govt. was elected to serve the people , develop the country and fulfill its promises . Instead, the Govt. has been wasting the people s monies holding elections throughout the year while its Ministers and parliamentarians have been wasting their time on election campaigns and unlawful election activities , whereby the country s economy , education sector, agriculture, health sector and development programs have been totally neglected.
Of course, the adverse impact of the Govt. s attitude does not affect the Cabinet of Ministers (the largest in the world !), for they enjoy all the perks and privileges , and even in the present country s dire economic situation they are increasing their benefits rather than making sacrifices. This is the first time in SL , and perhaps in the whole world there has emerged a Govt. elected by the people to serve them has become parasitic on the very people who elected it to power , he lamented. Riding on the backs of the people to cover up Govt. corruption , wastages and Ministerial inefficiency has become the Govt. s favorite hobby.

The Govt. s obsession is to perpetuate its power at any cost even when it knows it has made a mess of every sector and continuing to plunge the country into the worst economic holocaust, he regretted.

Back from hibernation......

UNP really don't want any more elections. They don't want to extend the record for lost elections.

Please we'll be in opposition forever but please don't hold any elections. We cannot take this humiliation anymore... PLEASE.

That sumps up the tirade from Gayantha.
