The Sri Lankan Airlines which recorded a profit of Rs.4000 million is now incurring a loss of Rs.9300 million.
(Lanka-e-News 18.Oct.2009 9.00AM) The SL airlines which registered a profit of Rs. 4000 million just two years ago is now incurring a loss of Rs. 9350 million!
This shocking disclosure was made by Earnest and Young Co. who are the auditors for SL airlines when presenting the accounts.
The Institution which suffered a loss of Rs. 4420 million in the year 2008 , within the next twelve months incurred a loss of Rs. 9350 million. In other words it has incurred double the amount of loss than the previous year.
The debt position of SL airlines presently is 25010 million and 20 lakhs. Its assets position is Rs. 16850 million twenty lakhs. This means that the Company`s debts exceeds its assets value by Rs.8160 million. Moreover, the assets which was valued at Rs. 47940 million 20 lakhs in 2008 had dropped to Rs.13590 million 90 lakhs.
It is reported that after the Airlines was taken over by the Govt. the permanent deposit of The Rs. 6850 million 60 lakhs had also been frittered away.
The Audit Co. asserts, at this rate, continuing with the Airlines will be a huge problem in the future.

But yes, this is a bloody disgrace (in a long list of national disgraces). Hopefully the coming holiday season will improve the airline's bottom line. |
