The Editor of the Sinhalese language weekly Lanka Chandana Sirmalwatte was arrested a short while ago over a headline suggesting a serious rift between President Mahinda Rajapakse and former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka, a spokesperson for the newspaper said yesterday.

Mr. Sirimalwatte was picked up by a team of CID officials accompanied by the Homagama police at a play ground in Homagama, the spokesperson said.

Director CID DIG Nandana Munasinghe told timesonline that investigators wish to know the source of information that amounted to this particular headline in the paper`s issue of October 16.

`Lanka` editor taken away by group claiming to be from CID

The Chief Editor of `Lanka Irida` weekend Sinhalese news paper Chandana Sirimalwatta was taken away at Homagama a few moments ago by a group claiming to be from the CID says Mr. Asanga Sayakkara, a journalist of `Lanka Irida.`

Mr. Sayakkara said the group had shown their CID identity cards and took Mr. Sirimalwatta with them saying they waned to question him.

This CONFIRMS the serious rift between Mahinda and Fonseka.

He had said to the newspaper that he had not said anything EVEN similar to that to ANY ONE.

It seems all the hyenas are making stories.

The editor will have to substantiate from where or from whom he received this information of the rift...

Trace the source & find out how credible....

Just because the editor holds a pen, his imagination running riot can not be put to paper.
he must be responsible for his actions.

Quoite rightly, the CID will find out.

Only a weak leader would panic about what was written in ordinary newspapers.
Why should anybody with a backbone worry about those journalists.

Let them write whatever they want to write with decency.

In India, nobody is threaten like this, what a shame!

Lanka is the paper of JVP, these journalists write according to their party's vision.
