Inteligence officials have revealed that the son of Vanni district TNA MP Sathasivam Kanagaratnam was a prominent LTTE member Giri who is said to have handled many attacks in Colombo, and attempted attacks on president Mahinda Rajapaksa and defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, in close association with several high ranking army officials.
`Giri` was involved in the planning of the assassination of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, and he is said to be responsible for stashing away suicide kits and explosives, which were recently discovered by the State Intelligence Services (SIS) from a house in the Modera Anandaraja housing complex. The SIS has also revealed that Giri had a plan to assasinate defence secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by blasting a bomb fixed to a motor bike and ridden by a suicide cadre.
Meanwhile, the plan to assassinate the president at the `Deyata Kirula` exhibition premises last year was also said to be Giri`s. He, it is reported, had also planned to assassinate the president at a passing out ceremony at the Diyatalawa army camp on December 20,.2007 with the help of a Lieutenant Colonel who is now in the custody of the Colombo Crime Division.
