More than thousand Sri Lankan soldiers die in tank bund explosion, rebels say
COLOMBO (AFP) Tamil Tiger fighters in a devastating blow has killed more than thousand Sri Lankan soldiers in a fierce counterattack on forces advancing on the remaining rebel held area, a pro-rebel Web site claimed on Saturday. The LTTE blew up the Kalmadukulam Tank bund this morning flooding several areas and drowning Government forces in what appears to be a carefully planned counter attack.
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, a spokesman for the Sri Lankan military forces was not available for comment. The government bars most journalists from areas where the fighting is taking place and the claims from both parties accounts cannot be independently verified.
