| | Not a plane but a low orbit satellite Friday, 23 January 2009 - 5:26 AM SL Time | | | First your donkeys shot at commercial flights TWICE, now even trying to hit a satellite? What kind of moron mistakes a satellite for a plane. Secondly given how small and high up it would seem, what kind of utter moron would even bother to try and shoot at it???
So please wait for the next great `Velu has escaped` story, only problem is going to be the punch line for your morons, since he isn`t even trying to run away :)

The Defence establishment yesterday said that investigations into what was earlier believed to be a suspicious aircraft over the skies of Mullaitivu seen on Tuesday night is now believed to have been a low orbit satellite.
Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara at a media briefing held yesterday said that an Air Force aircraft which was flying at a high altitude on Tuesday night had spotted lights at around 8 p.m. in the skies of Vishvamadu along with Naval craft who had also spotted the lights in the skies.
However, both the Aircraft and the Navy who were both unable to verify immediately whether it was a suspicious aircraft said later the lights had not emanated from a suspicious aircraft.
According to the Wing Commander, both naval and the Air Force radars had also not detected a suspicious aircraft and the only aircraft it had detected was that of the Air Force which was flying in a rehearsal in the northern skies.

| Well, it is possible. Ive seen such low orbiting satellites but these move fast. Not a single report explains how fast this light was travelling though. |

Su dear they move fast but also look like a star, so even if mistaken for a plane the gun crews must understand that it was too high to bother shooting at it? Or do they not know the limitations of their own weapons :)
Oh one more thing to ponder (directed at all not just Su), if this is a satellite, then why are they only noticing it now? It must have been in the same orbit for months if not years, you would think someone someday would have known about it before :) Edited By - Revy - 23 Jan 2009 01:19:37 GMT |

Mystery surrounds the sighting of an unidentified aircraft over Mullaitivu around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.
It had been spotted coming in from the direction of the Palk Straits and returning whence it came.
'It was at a considerable height. The Navy fired at the aircraft from their boats without success. Both, the Navy and Air Force had noticed the mysterious aircraft with a bright light,' Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara told The Island.
Asked whether the aircraft could have landed somewhere in Mullaitivu before flying back, the Wing Commander said that it was not possible given the high altitude and the short time it had taken to fly back.
The Island on January 7 reported that an RAW spy plane had flown over Sri Lanka s theatre of war in the North.
In that news item, RAW watches northern front from air, our special Indian correspondent Venkat Narayan quoting the Times of India (TI) said that after the Sri Lankan forces captured Kilinochchi, India had sent a team of select officials from the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) on a secret surveillance mission across the Palk Straits.
Quoting unnamed sources, TI said that an aircraft belonging to the Air Research Centre (ARC), a top secret wing of the RAW, had taken off from the Chennai Airport around 3 am on Saturday, January 3.
But the sources TI quoted had refused to confirm whether the mission had been carried out on a request by the Sri Lanka government.
The RAW aircraft is capable of flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet and photographing objects that were only one metre above the ground level.
Military intelligence was unable to confirm whether yesterday s sighting over Mullaitivu had any connection to the RAW mission on January 3.
The Island reliably learns that the Sri Lankan government has not granted permission for RAW to carry out surveillance missions.

My suspicions are confirmed.
However, the pilot of the beachcraft which was flying 21,000 feet high had observed this bright red light above the aircraft at 8.15. However, the soldiers at Omanthai Army camp has also observed similar type of light at 8.38 pm., and an Airman manning an anti aircraft gun had observe this light at 8.40 p.m. It has been seen over Pallai at 8.50 p.m.
http://www.dailynews.lk/2009/01/23/fea03.asp
Think an aircraft like a zlin will fly from vavuniya to Pallai in 12 minutes? Omanthai to Pallai is something like what? 95 kilometers?
Obviously you havent seen a low flying satellite revy to say its been orbiting for months. Noooo wayyy. I havet routinely seen satelites flying the same time each day.
Obviously many have seen this mysterious light even at Vavuniya. which means it was very very high altitude and bright. Brightness means its sun's reflection dont think any artificial lights of any aircraft will reach far as Vavuniya. Think of a planet reflecting sunlight.
Dont take this as 100% since im just going by the witness reports. The same report says the Dvroa lost as well when DW made another blunder heehee |

Su33 thanks for pointing out the article, you can understand I hardly read Daily News, but wow they even outdid Tamilnet??? what gives? LOL
Amidst, troops intercepting these suspicious radio transmissions of the LTTE one Dvora Fast Attack Craft which was operating eight Nautical Miles sea off Mullaitivu suddenly got blasted around midnight.
It has been reported that the Officer commanding of the Dvora Squadron Lt. Commander N.L. Abeysinghe, Lieutenant Sampath OIC of the Dvora, Lieutenant Perera and 17 sailors were on board the board the Fast Attack Craft bearing number P- 434.
It had suddenly blasted and sunk in the sea within one minutes after the blast. One sailor had managed to escape and got into another boat, which was operating closer by at the time of the blast.
The Navy divers have later found two bodies believed to be of the Black Sea Tiger cadres who had blasted the Dvora Fast Attack Craft either by fixing explosives into it or by reaching it with the help of a barge which cannot be identified in rough seas.
that sounds so much like the other Dvora that was sunk in similar 'surprise' circumstances??
Anyway back to satellite / RAW flight / VP's magic carpet / UFO :):)
My suspicions are confirmed.
What do oyu mean? that it is not or it was a satellite?
