Two weeks ago, the Tamil Nadu Police arrested the 52-year-old Father and four of his aides, including two women, on charges of murder, rape and kidnapping. If the arrest wasn't totally unexpected, it was because once before in July, he, along with the centre's chief administrator Joseph Alphons and two others, was arrested for non-repayment of loans amounting to Rs 80 lakh taken in 1994. Then, they had all managed to secure bail after furnishing statements, promising to clear the dues. This time, however, the Father wasn't so lucky.

His recent arrest follows a complaint by Fransiscal Jaya, Alphons' wife and a former inmate of the ashram. She alleged that in November last year, the priest had attempted to rape her 14-year-old daughter Diana, a class ix student of the centre's prestigious Maranatha Residential School in the same complex. She also alleged that the death of Gilbert Raj, 18, an inmate of the centre, in 1994, was due to 'sexual persecution'. Following the charges, the police exhumed Raj's body from the campus cemetery

CHANDIGARH: A man accused of raping his minor daughter has been sentenced to life imprisonment here by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, R.S. Attri.

The court also directed the Administration of the Union Territory of Chandigarh to pay the victim a compensation of Rs.1 lakh.

The court directed the Administration, through the Home Secretary, to bear the victim s educational and boarding charges until she attains the age of majority.

There can never be a more grave and heinous crime than a father being charged with raping his daughter. It is a betrayal of trust as he is a fortress and the refuge of his daughter, the Judge said.

It is a loathsome sin and an unpardonable act. Ordinarily the offence of rape is grave in nature, more so when the perpetrator of the crime is the father. It is far gravest and the rarest of the rare, which warrants a strong judicial hand. Not only this, the victim carries a local stigma and deathless shame as long as she lives, the Judge added.

The victim, a student of Class VII, had come to the court to hear the quantum of sentence being pronounced.

Better to convert to Buddhism or you will face the same feat like Lasantha who died like a dog !

HC orders arrest of man for raping daughter

ERODE: As per Madras High Court order, a case has been registered against a person of Anthiyur Pudupalayam here on charges of raping his 13-year-old daughter. According to the police, he was staying with his daughter after his wife left him a few years back.

A few months back, the girl left the house, unable to bear her father's torture.

Found standing near a bus stand, a few people took her to an orphanage run by the Social Welfare Department in Chennai.

Medical test

Recently, a few counsellors spoke to the girl, who said she was raped by her father.

A medical test was conducted and a petition filed with the Madras High Court, seeking the Court to order the arrest of the girl's father.

The Court directed the Erode District Police to arrest the man. Search is on for him.
