CrabCurry,

After all, he seems to have sold his soul. A poor shell of a man with grandiose dissertations regarding his numerous contributions to the ungrateful Tamils.

Trust me, I haven t sold my soul to anyone. But, some of you have. Many of you complained about discrimination at the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. So, you took your free university education and went to work for Europeans, Australians and North Americans. In the new promised land, you had to overcome prejudice and discrimination to succeed in life. In many cases, you found out that the glass ceiling could not be broken. All that frustration in life, especially seeing how the kids are growing up in a non-traditional society, was channeled to support the LTTE to create this utopian state called Tamil Eelam.

Please note that I am not referring to the Tamils who lost property and family members in the ethnic riots or those who directly suffered as a result of the war in the Northeast. These people left, just as my parents did, to provide a safer environment for their children. But, I know many Tamils who left Sri Lanka even before 1980, mostly professionals with very few immediate family members still left in the Jaffna Peninsula or Colmbo, but were ideologically committed for the cause of Tamil Eelam. Until now, it was only their voices there heard, dampening out all other voices of people yearning to go back to their ancestral villages and towns.

I am grateful to my ancestors whose contributions benefited both my hometown and Sri Lanka in general. I am also very grateful to those people who risked everything, especially at a chance for a better life for themselves, to stay and provide help to the unfortunate people who were rendered refugees in their own country.

I turned 38 years old in October. I am not from Jaffna. I am from Valvettithurai

Yarlan,

You are 38 years old and you said your parents left Sri Lanka when you were only nine months old. Who gave you the right to comment about other people who left Sri Lanka after 1983?

If you came to the States when you were nine months old, are you fluent in Tamil and can you speak and write Tamil well.
