In his column predicting his own assassination, Wickrematunge mocked the president personally and forecast that no one would ever be arrested in his murder.
'In the wake of my death, I know you will make all the usual sanctimonious noises and call upon the police to hold a swift and thorough inquiry,' he wrote, addressing Rajapaksa. 'But like all the inquiries you have ordered in the past, nothing will come of this one, too.'
How accurately Lasantha has described the cowardly Rajapakse.
This man Rajapakse together with his brothers are sure to meet a violent end. That's for sure.

It is because of Jaffna 'Tamil experts' like you, the LTTE leadership refused to acknowledge the geopolitical realities in South Asia. Egged on by expatriate Tamils with 'cash and expertise', the top echelon in Vanni started to believe in their own rhetoric. This symbiotic relationship began to appear to like the 'blind leading the blind.' You tried to go against the regional aspirations of India (while trying to placate it at the same time). A huge mistake. India is the regional Superpower in South Asia (whether Pakistan likes it or not is immaterial) and is now a close ally of U.S. and EU. India's strategic interests in the Indian Ocean, especially in regard to Sri Lanka, collided with the LTTE's existence as a powerful non-State entity that is not answerable to its sphere of influence. Read my article 'The Way Forward' written more than an year ago. Remember all those meetings Thamilselvam and others had with foreign dignitaries under the Tiger flag in Vanni? How did you think the power center in Delhi felt? While the likes of you were celebrating such meetings, India set in motion a series of measures to assist the GOSL to wage a proxy war to demolish the quasi-parallel state being created in the Northeast. That is why I said that the best chance for a real political settlement, one that would have made all the losses and suffering the Sri Lankan Tamils had to endure since 1983, would not have been in vain if the 2002 CFA was utilized in a constructive way. A political settlement that would have resulted in regional autonomy could have been achieved by 2006. Instead, the LTTE leadership took steps to go on the Final War while your relatives prepared for Bharathnaytam arengatrams in the West.

Tamil writing styles have changed over time, but I dont read modern books. Only some old history books and everyday newspapers and magazines, so cant compare that well over time. There are others in LNP here that have read lot of Tamil books.
To understand TV news, for you, you need a better vocabulary, otherwise news is OK as they pronounce words well in a more standard accent. If you know how to read Tamil, then read through some newspapers, that way you can improve your vocab. |
